The Stranahan House, also known as the Pioneer House, is an historic building located at 335 Southeast 6th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.
It was built in 1902 as a trading post by Frank Stranahan (1865-1929}, the founder of Fort Lauderdale, who had earlier established a ferry across the New River at this point to carry traffic on the newly built road from Lantana to what is now North Miami. (That road is now U.S. 1.) The building also served as the town hall and post office. It became his home in 1906 when he added a second story and remodeled the existing structure for his wife, Ivy Julia (Cromartie) Stranahan (1881-1971), Fort Lauderdale's first teacher and co-founder, whom he had married in 1900. After her husband's death Ivy Stranahan kept the house, but rented out the first floor to a restaurant. After her death it was devised to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church which sold it to the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society in 1979. After being restored the house was conveyed in 1981 to Stranahan House, Inc., a non-profit corporation set up to preserve and maintain it.
On October 2, 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

One reviewer writes:
If you're tired of the SoBe artificial scene with plastic people and overpriced restaurants, Sebastian Beach is the place where the gay community has drifted as the market drifted nothwards also. Sebastian Beach is relatively small,in the shadow of the new Westin and Trump towers, but this small three-block area is assiduously populated by a large, in-shape, crowd, totally different from the Wal-Mart sized oiled crowd in the rest of the expansive Ft. Lauderdale beach.
The gay area is three blocks to the South of the large string of gay B&B and gay hotels, and buffered to the North by the jet ski channel; to the South by that invisible buffer that seems to appear on all gay beaches.
Much less pretentious than its cousin to the South. And nice people.

The recreation area was named in memory of the late John U. Lloyd, Broward County’s attorney for more than 30 years, who was instrumental in acquiring the first piece of property that eventually became this park.
New River Sound was the original link from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and the New River in Fort Lauderdale. The Native Americans used this for access to and from the Everglades.
The "Barefoot Mailman" walked along these very shores in the late 1800’s to deliver mail to the hardy souls willing to brave the hostile environment before Interstates and air conditioning.
Whiskey Creek, as the sound is now known, was used for smuggling liquor during "The Prohibition Era". There have been a number of sites found just west of the park of old smugglers camps including liquor bottles and other evidence of their illegal activities.
On a more contemporary note "Whiskey Creek" is the location of the infamous "Murf the Surf murders".
Although the actual murders are well documented, the many sightings of the "Red Eyed Lady" are more for your interpretation. She is believed to be the spirit of one of "Murf the Surf"’s victims.

Pompano Citi Centre is a primarily open-air shopping mall in Pompano Beach, Florida. The center consists of a strip of big box retailers, as well as a small lifestyle center section. The mall's anchors include J. C. Penney, Lowe's, Macy's, and Sears. Office Depot and Ross are considered by Faison, the property owner and developer, as junior anchors.
Previously, the center was an enclosed mall called Pompano Square. Originally developed by Leonard L. Farber, Inc. in 1970, Pompano Fashion Square was renamed and renovated in 1985 to better compete with newer shopping centers. By the early-2000s, however, Pompano Square was a dead mall. Interest in redevelopment surfaced in 2004, and Faison revitalized the center into the current outdoor mall in 2006.
The old enclosed mall featured Jordan Marsh (which became Mervyn's and later Dillard's, but was demolished in 2005 for Lowe's) and Burdines, today operating as Macy's. Penney's and Sears were retained from the old mall.
