Great location and wonderful, personalized experience with the hospitable and knowledgeable owner. Lovely to have a full homemade breakfast and we had a suite , which was quite roomy and comfortable. The common area is beautiful and we felt very welcome, chatting with other guests but also having some privacy. Communication with the owner prior to arrival and while staying was helpful and clear. It is great to stay in a place where you interact directly with someone who cares.

Awful checkin experience. I had been told through the booking chat that I had been upgraded since I need a room that could fit the sofa bed and a cot rather than two beds (for my children to sleep separated), but the lady at the desk did not know about and would not even want to see the chat conversation. Looked really annoyed even at my asking and was very passive-aggressive even after I said I would pay for the upgrade (which I did) even if that is not what I had been told. At the end she just rolled in a cot (all wrapped up in sheets and just left, the sofa bed was also not made). Most of the things looked very old but were well kept. The people at the reception next day were nicer but we had to put up with other guests making racist comments about latinos at breakfast seemingly loud enough so that we could hear them.

Check-in was quick and easy. We expected a small, cramped room but the room and bathroom were huge with plenty of storage. Breakfast was mostly grab and go foods like bagels and muffins, just enough to jump-start the day. We had dinner at Penzo's Pizza which is located at the Inn. The pizza, shrimp and breadsticks were very good as were the drinks. It was a quiet atmosphere which was perfect after our long drive. We will definitely stay here for our next trip to Montpelier.
Featuring mountain views from the backyard, Artful Lodging & Retreats is located in Montpelier, the nation's smallest capitol, just 0.9 mi from downtown and the Vermont State House.

Barre is a beautiful little town with fascinating architecture and sculptures, excellent restaurants and coffee shops, and special treats like the Kitty Cafe. And all this is easily walkable and there is plenty of onatreet parking. The folks are friendly and helpful, and you're not far from magnificent scenery, the state capitol, and Goddard College. I had most of my meals at the Ladder 1 - I sure hope I got the name right: the food was excellent, the beer selection great, and the waitstaff terrific.

I was visiting my cousins and this was the only place available. It was close to both cousin. One lives in Barre and the other in Orange.Since I have been around Barre when my uncle lived in Upper Graniteville I would stay with them and went around Barre a lot therefore the area is very familiar. The Rock of Age gift shop was different and was disappointed that they did not have the Manufacturing plant open for tour but we went on the Smith Quarry tour. My uncle worked in both Rock of Ages & Smith. His son worked for Rock of Ages and had an accident where he
lost both legs,

Barre, Vermont is a town in the Green Mountain state.
Barre, Vermont is a town in the Green Mountain state. The town is clean and pedestrians can expect polite drivers who wait for them to cross at marked crosswalks. Barre has a concert venue called the Barre Opera house which might be worth a night for visitors. Pubs and bars close early by city standards and restaurants are rather scarce and feature simple fare. For more sophisticated dining, you'll want to drive to Montpelier (15 minutes at most) or Burlington (40 minutes) or Stowe. There are drugstores and hardware stores to take care of "basics". The Wayside Diner, is perhaps the bright spot in terms of breakfast places, particularly if you like pancakes and eggs in traditional American style. Staples and other big box stores will be found on the way to larger towns and the one city -- Burlington.

If you value the relaxation and beauty of central Vermont,...
If you value the relaxation and beauty of central Vermont, Barre is a wonderful place to visit. There are always at least a dozen or so affordable, great restaurants in the area, and of course the scenery of the entire area is spectacular. We go to Vermont to relax and visit with family and friends, so Barre for us is always a bit like coming home even though we live nearly 3000 miles away.

Barre is very laid back, nothing spectacular.
Barre is very laid back, nothing spectacular. Restaurants are local. We weren't looking for culture and were very content with the relaxed environment. Burlington is only 45 minutes away. The owner Caryn has all the local restaurant info in the room's notebook. It's a lovely old town.

It was a one night stay, and my annual visit for work in Montpelier the next morning.
If you like Thai food, The Royal Orchid on Elm Street is fabulous. The owner Art and his wife (?) are very nice!
Loved everything! Atmosphere, hospitality, views, comforts like home, breakfast...all of these were excellent. We were visiting our son and family who live in Barre and were staying longer than most guests. Frankie and Pierre made us feel at home during our 5 day stay. The bonus for us was getting to meet all the different guests from all over the world that stayed each night. Breakfast was lovely and delicious.
Large room, clean, good shower (hot and good water pressure), cute inn, warm room, lots of light. Wonderful inn that is well kept. Met one of their dogs, super cute. Cannot wear outside shoes which was fine with me and I was prepared with slippers. One of the owners carried my bag upstairs to my room which was nice of him and showed to me how the thermostat worked.
This place is fantastic. Easy, off-street parking. Exterior lighting was helpful and added to the secure feel of the property. Spotless in every area. The owner has thought of everything to make a stay here delightful. I had to contact the owner with a question and received a prompt response. The apartment we stayed in was comfy, cozy, quiet, and inviting.
It’s more an air bnb than a hotel to be honest. We were checked in at the restaurant bar by a really friendly young woman, however that was the last we saw of anyone. The room was very nice and quirky, the bed was comfy enough.
The Reynolds House has an abundance of character - very tastefully and appropriately decorated. Jeffrey was a great host. Barre is a perfect location from which to explore Northern & Central Vermont's sights and activities.
One of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in US. Love this small building. It has 4 rooms, large history and a nice bar/restaurant on 1st floor. Barre is a beautiful town. Perfect stay for a Indian Summer Tour
Breakfast was very tasty - French toast with maple syrup. Location is great - walking distance from downtown Barre. The house is very interesting and is beautifully restored to its Victorian origins.
We were served excellent breakfasts on both mornings by the owner. The property is conveniently situated, not far from the town centre and Barre was convenient for touring the area.
The ambience. Nothing like it in any “hotel” we’ve stayed in over all the years of traveling. The restaurant on the ground floor was a great place to enjoy dinner. Firehouse !!!
Beautiful barn nice environment and alot of space. Amazing breakfast made by Pierre and good recommendations on what to do around.
About 10 mins to Barre and 20 to Montpelier.
