Along with many others, on arriving at around 330pm to check in before heading off for the 530pm start of the concert at Mt Smart, we were informed our room was not available and we would have a wait of an hour to an hour and a half before anything would be available. We made the booking because of the convenience to the stadium and needed to get there on time. We were not able to do that. Having sat and watched a number of people follow us and be given access cards we asked again, and were told that these were for different rates of room. While I can accept that there may be different room rates/charges in principle, when the room that has been booked and paid for is not available and you can't say when it will be available, then the hotel should reorganise allocation of rooms to minimise disruption. It was busy because of the concert and the races, but management must have seen the capacity challenge and should have organised additional cleaning staff. I felt bad for the front line staff because they were just told to hold the line and say no rooms were available and we would have to wait. We missed the start of the concert and missed the opportunity to get a better spot for the main act. Management should have put in place a better plan for managing the high level of occupancy that day and when it was obvious there was a problem should have done a better job at organising people instead of just leaving us all in a heap in the reception area with our bags waiting.

The Novotel Hotel is a short 25 minute drive from the Auckland International and Domestic Airports. Transportation to and from the Airport can be arranged via Taxi or Shuttle. The standard Taxi fare ranges from NZD$60.00 - $80.00 one way. There are taxis available outside the Airport Terminals. We recommend the shuttle company Super Shuttle. Fares start from NZD$28.00 one way for one person, extra people are NZD$7.00. For larger groups traveling together, you may hire a Super Shuttle van.
