Holiday Inn Forest Park in St. Louis is not adjacent to the park, nor is it in a park like setting. It is a smaller, older hotel that was poorly remodeled with paint and carpet. The restaurant was deserted when we tried to have breakfast, probably because it smelled so moldy. There was no refrigerator in the room and the carpet looked as if it had not been vacuumed. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and other than carpets, it was clean. « less

I had a great experience at HI Forrest Park on March 9-11th!
Pros- -smooth check-in! -great customer service (Front desk staff was nice and the man vacuuming the lobby on Sunday was super friendly!) -clean room -balcony -comfortable bed -amazing shower! (I didn't want to get out!) -love the renovations -modern decor in the lobby -great location!! (Hotel is right off of I-44 and easy access to downtown, the grove, central west end, forrest park, the loop, science center etc...)
Cons- -the lobby smells like feet! Tip: maybe you could have an aroma therapy wick-less candle at the front desk to mask any odor coming in and out of the lobby. - the elevator is slow. I know this isn't an easy fix, but one time it felt like I waited 10 minutes for the elevator. « less

After reading the review from "OnTheRoadWarrior" & what I feel were unrealistic expectations, I was compelled to write this review as I disagree with many of the comments. I've stayed in more hotels than I can possibly count & the quality has varied tremendously. I've also booked hundreds of rooms for the company I use to work for. We stayed at this hotel from March 3 to March 6, 2013. The hotel was immaculate. Our room was very modern & immaculate as well. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Check in & check out were fast. We needed a needle & thread & someone brought it to us within minutes of our call to the front desk. Housekeeping offered to clean our room each day (which we declined) however clean towels were delivered daily per our request. We were also pleased that we weren't woken up in the mornings by the housekeeping staff (which happens at many hotels). We didn't find any issues with the elevators being slow. We didn't eat in the restaurant so I have no opinion regarding it. The only disappointment was the swimming pool was outside & we weren't able to use it. I booked our room through a third party travel website that failed to mention this. Over all this hotel was top notch for a 3 star hotel. As a frequent traveler I know that each hotel chain has different amenities & they are listed on their website. As a general rule, if the hotel has a restaurant on site then a microwave & refrigerator are not provided in the room. I've booked rooms at the Drury Inn in Michigan & their amenities are different. However the price of the room is usually significantly higher. I would stay at this holet any time & recommend it to others. « less

I am in this area of St. Louis quite a bit, and usually stay at the Drury Inn. Since I am a Platinum member, I thought I'd give this Holiday Inn a try, on this trip. The Trainee at check in was nice enough, but the other person at the desk seemed totally uninterested in helping him out.
Horrible handling of a false fire alarm in the middle of the night. Someone pounded on our doors yelling "Go to the front desk NOW!", instead of saying Please evacuate immediately, or something else more reasonable. In a sleep filled stupor, I didn't know if someone was trying to get me to open the door and mug me, or what was going on. Frightening and confusing way to be woken up, to say the least. And I was afraid to open the door instead of being compelled to follow safety measures.
The two elevators are the slowest I've dealt with in a long time. I can't even imagine how slow the wait would be if the hotel was more occupied. Both my keys quit working the second day as if I had been checked out. So, I had to lug my shopping bags and dinner back down and then back up the elevator. At the desk while getting my key reprogrammed, I complained to the front desk about the overall stay. She seemed a bit disinterested, said she just got in and hadn't heard exactly what had happened during the night, and didn't even offer an apology.
As a Platinum member, I did get an upgrade to a room with a microwave and mini fridge, 1 free drink ticket, and 1 free coffee ticket for the restaurant/lounge (seriously? for a two night stay?). Tomorrow I am moving across the street to the Drury Inn for my remaining 6 days in St. Louis. Drury provides everyone with a microwave and fridge, free breakfast, plus free evening drinks and appetizers. Doubt I will be back to this Holiday Inn unless they figure out a way to actually compete with the great service an amenities as their competition. Most hotels do it much better than this! « less

I just stayed 10 nights at this hotel due to a family emergency and felt so safe there. The staff is by far the friendliest and always greeted you by name. The food in the bar/restaurant is incredible and way better than you would expect in a hotel this size. And the food is reasonably priced too. My one and only complaint is that it is next to the highway so every morning I would wake up to the sound of the traffic. Not the hotel's fault though. It is what it is. I was able to get a refrigerator and microwave for my room but I do know that they have a limited supply of those. It sure doesn't hurt to ask. I also used the guest laundry room and found it to be very clean as well as convenient. I will definitely recommend this place to others. Very clean facility! « less
