I liked Travelodge. The hotel was simple but clean and safe. The only thing I did not like was when we were to exit the room someone knocked on the door saying that our time of stay was over and it was before 11 am, It was not polite. Overall the experience was good for the price. « less

If you’re in Los Angeles and need a hotel, avoid the Hollywood Vermont/Sunset Travelodge (1401 N. Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027, phone 323 665 5735). I had a terrible experience there.
I had a reservation to stay there this past May 9 and May 10. My friend, Marian, booked my room there on her credit card in April. She explained everything to the reservations clerk and asked many questions so there wouldn’t be any surprises when I checked in. She had to pre-pay for my entire stay to lock in the discounted rate.
Because I am legally blind, I hired John Kirk, my hearing impaired acquaintance, to drive me around Los Angeles. From the second that we arrived at the Hollywood Vermont/Sunset Travelodge, there was trouble. Because of my limited vision, I made the mistake of trying to enter the hotel thru the wrong door. Gabbar Singh, who was in charge of the front desk, yelled at us for opening the wrong door. I tried to explain that I could barely see and held up my blind man’s cane. Singh slammed the door in our faces.
John and I finally found the correct entrance. I tried to explain to Gabbar Singh that I was legally blind and that was why I was holding a “stick.” I tried to explain that I was not going to hit him with it.
After I showed him my reservation number and I.D., Singh demanded I give him my credit card for “incidental charges” (damages, pay movies, etc.). I explained that I did not have a credit card, but I could give him a cash deposit, provided it would be refunded to me when I checked out. Gabbar Singh refused to let me stay there because I did not have a credit card.
John Kirk then offered Singh his credit card to use for “incidental charges.” Singh refused again. John said he would book a NEW room, but Gabbar Singh refused a third time. Singh admitted that he did not want me there. He said that it did not matter that I had enough cash to cover the incidentals or that John had a credit card in hand. It did not matter to him that my friend, Marian, paid for my stay in full on her credit card several weeks earlier. He did not want me there and let that be known.
Before John and I left the hotel, he collected business cards from Gabbar and his associate. John said that he would give me the cards when he drove me back to the airport, but he lost them.
It took John and me about an hour and several phone calls to locate another hotel. In that respect, John came through.
Other than dealing with a terrible hotel clerk, I had a great time in Los Angeles. « less

Came here and stayed over night to attend a show at the House of Blues. The price was decent and the room was a nice size. Everything was nice and neat and clean. The bed was comfortable and I liked that there was a safe where I could leave my wallet and jewelry since I wouldn't be taking them with me to the concert. The bathroom was clean and sanitary (the toilet had a seal on it that assured us it was freshly attended to) there were plenty of towels, samples and toilet paper for two people. I really have no complaints!
Check in and out was a breeze and the front desk was friendly and helpful ready to answer questions and help us with Taxi arrangements as well. It wasn't the best or most fancy area to stay in but it served it's purpose very well. It was a room with a bed and a bathroom to come to in between our travels here and there around town. Overall, enjoyed our stay and wouldn't mind staying again. « less

Stayed with my Mum and we had 2 double beds. The room was a little small for the 2 beds AND suitcases! We were at the very end of our trip and had 2 cases each, but couldn't really fit them all in! We had to stand them up down the side of one bed and shuffle around them. There wasn't really even room to have one case left open, except to take everything off the tv desk and lift it up there. The rooms have been recently painted, but the hotel is showing its age. Plain, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included, but don't get too excited, it's very basic and (strangely) served in the front reception, with everybody milling around, then trying to all sit down at only 2 or 3 small tables in a very small attached sun room. Very strange set up! There is a pool, but as it was the end of winter, and not particularly warm, I didn't look at it so can't comment. There is also a laundry, but annoyingly it is kept locked, and you have to go and collect the key from reception (wade my way through all the people milling around at breakfast!), put the washing on, take the key back to reception. Then 45 mins later, go back to reception for the key, swap the washing to the dryer, drop the key back...you get the idea! Coins are available at reception. The real bonus is the proximity to the metro station - only a block and a bit - really only about 2 mins walk. From here it is only a couple of stops to major tourist sights. I would probably stay here again, just for the convenience. We were able to organise a shuttle from the hotel to LAX for about $18 each, through supershuttle.com « less
