I attended a wedding of two young people that started working at the Point Inn and when the time was right they could not choose any other place to start their life together. I didn't get to use the Spa but it was beautiful. The service and food was great. They had the wedding on the outside terrace and then we went inside for the celebration. Not cheap but everything you could want. « less

Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback. While it's great to hear you love our scenic setting, I'm sorry you were frustrated with the guests who wandered into the reception. That certainly isn't something we tolerate, but it's sometimes difficult for us to distinguish who's with the wedding and who's not.
We want every couple who gets married at our hotel to have a perfect wedding day, so we'll definitely take your comments into consideration. There's always room for improvement, and I know your review will help us enhance our special events.

We wanted to celebrate my daughters 11th birthday in a special place since this would be her first year not having a friend party. I chose Saybrook Point for the location, amenities and overall look of the hotel. It looked like some place she would like and enjoy. It is on the expensive side but we would have spent as much on her usual party anyway so that was a wash. We drove from RI so we stopped at Mystic Aquarium first to kill time before the 4:00 check in. We pulled into the parking area and found a parking space almost at the front door. We all went in and received a warm welcome from the front desk woman as well as the bellman. The bellman helped is with our bags and told us about the hotel as he walked us to our room on the 2nd floor. The girls (3 of them) wanted to go swimming ASAP so they got their suits on and we headed to the indoor pool. There were a few other guests in the pool areas - inside and outside. But there was plenty of seating available for us. The girls had a great time swimming. They liked the saltwater. We had dinner reservations at the restaurant for 6:00. The hotel was extremely crowded at this point as there was a wedding taking place. The lounge at the front of the restaurant (as well as the hallways leading into the restaurant) was packed with people. The Kentucky Derby was also taking place so there were many ladies with large hats on in the lounge. We waited for about 20 minutes to get to our table in the restaurant. The wait was due to the large number of people in the entrance and the hostesses being so busy. The restaurant itself was not busy and we were seated at our table. The food was very good. They had a piece of cake for my daughter, I had put on the Open Table reservation that it was her birthday. Again, the restaurant was pricey but my daughter loved it. We went back to our room which was a double queen bed. It was large, clean, and well appointed. I had ordered strawberries dipped in chocolate as well as a cake. They were both left in the fridge. We enjoyed these after our meal, the girls LOVED the strawberries in particular. We called it a day around 10:00 PM. Unfortunately we didn't have a peaceful sleep. At 1:08 AM I was awakened by talking in the hallway. I thought the people would pass and the noise would end but they stayed there and started singing - loudly. The three girls were starting to wake up so I got up and banged on the door. The people started complaining about me banging the door, using profanity and saying they had just gotten married (don't know if it was the actual bride and groom). I yelled through the door that there were 3 kids in the room and to "shut up". I heard "sorry" and it got quiet. Thankfully the girls fell back asleep easily, I did not. I was up for another couple of hours only to finally fall asleep but then be awakened again at 5:30 AM. This time by the nightstand alarm clock, which for some reason was set. I DID NOT have a good nights sleep here. We headed back to the pool around 7:30 AM. The girls swam for an hour before they decided they were hungry. They dried off and changed up and we headed back to the restaurant for breakfast. There was a good selection to choose from and we all were happy with our meals. The view from the table was beautiful. I would have liked to walk around the marina and just explore for a while but we had to head back to RI. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Be prepared to spend some money but it is well worth it. The next time we visit I would like to stay more than one night. The whole area is so pretty, it would be nice to look around some more. I would definitely use the spa on my next visit too. « less

Thanks for your review! I'm thrilled that your daughter had such a great time celebrating her birthday with us. We're always honored when guests choose to stay at our hotel for a special occasion!
That being said, I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get a good night's sleep when you were here. We strive to create a relaxing environment for our guests, but sometimes disturbances like that happen and we are here to assist and mediate. If ever you experience this again, please don't hesitate to call the front desk. We're more than happy to help in those situations!
Can't wait to have you back for a spa weekend.

My wife and I take 1 short vacation each year, a getaway without family or friends. This year was particularly difficult to schedule due to our work, so when we found ourselves heading to a wedding we decided to take a few days and stay at the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa. My wife made the arrangements, and I didn't even know where we were staying until we arrived. She warned me that because we had saved money elsewhere on the trip, she banked the balance to the cost of our stay at the Inn. While the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa does indeed offer very expensive rooms, the value is incredible. Anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful, romantic getaway - with access to gorgeous views of Long Island Sound, ample access to outdoor activities, great restaurants, and shopping - will want to book a stay here.
The Good
When we arrived, the porter at the front door handled all of our bags and helped us through the registration process at the front desk. The front desk staff were incredible, a combination of friendly and helpful. They went beyong the call of duty in their friendliness, even getting to know our routines within a day. We went running together one day, and they asked how it went when we got back. The next day, when we went running and returned, they asked the same question. I replied that this run was exhausting; they remembered that the previous day's run had been invigorating, and commented on it. I was impressed they remembered the conversation, as it had been small and potentially disposable.
The inn boasts beautiful rooms, from the very high-end lighthouse suite to the kind of open-concept suite we stayed in. The room we were in had a large flatscreen TV, Keurig coffee machine and selection of coffee and tea, and complete accoutremonts for wine (bottle opener, glasses, etc.). We had opted to have a bottle of wine delivered to our room each day as part of the cost of our stay, and the wine was good - not too complex, but drinkable, which is exactly what you want when you don't know what you're getting. There was a set of soft chairs in which to relax, a wood fireplace (which the porter would light as long as you would be in the room for >2 hours), a writing desk, another small table with chairs (for coffee or a light meal), a balcony with table and chairs (and a view facing the Sound), and a king-size bed with nightstands. The bathroom was incredible, with an enclosed frosted glass shower, a separate bathtub, toilet, and a two-sink vanity with ample counterspace for two people.
The Inn boasts a very good restaurant ("Fresh Salt"). We only took breakfast there, included in the price of our room, but we looked forward to that breakfast every day. The food was top shelf, the staff were friendly (and remembered us from day to day), and the views were beautiful, with a clear view of the docks and on the days we were there a view right out to Long Island itself.
The spa was very popular - book days in advance, if you intend to use it. We didn't get a chance to use it, but that's because we failed to plan ahead.
The inn also hosts a number of conference and ballrooms. We saw them being used by various groups, and they seemed to be well structured and managed.
The neighborhood around the Inn is gorgeous and accessible. Of course, the Inn is right on the water, but if you turn inland you can walk/run on sidewalks to the Saybrook main street shop area, filled with restaurants and stores. Or, you can turn along the shoreline and cross the causeway on Bridge St., heading into the beautiful beachfront neighborhoods surrounding the Inn. We took an easy 5 mile run around the inlet bordered on one side by the Bridge St. causeway and the rest of the Point on the other. Sidewalks make up most of the route, and where there are none the shoulders on the road are wide and traffic is reasonable.
The Bad
Look . . . it's an expensive place. That's not really a bad thing, but I don't want to mislead you. That said, you're getting everything you pay for, and more. Just budget for it and know what you're getting into when you go there. If money doesn't stress you out, either because you're a good planner or you have a lot of it, then relax and enjoy. The staff will take care of you and the rooms are always kept in excellent condition. We found ourselves wanting for nothing, and longing to come back.
Summary
Plan your stay money-wise, but other than that check in and relax. The Saybrook Point Inn and Spa was an unexpected vacation getaway for us this year, but has now become a "must-return" place. Since I grew up in Connecticut, I never vacationed there. Now I know why so many people do it. « less

I just returned from a friends wedding held at Saybrook Point Inn and Spa. I had been two years ago for my girlfriends birthday and was excited to return for the wedding. I love the rooms, I had 219 which overlooks the harbor. Spacious rooms, beautifully decorated, large bathroom with great space to spread out all your makeup and toiletries. 2 big window/doors that lead out to a small balcony with a table and chairs where you can sit and take in the scenery with a cup of coffee. Fresh Salt (restaurant) was wonderful! The wedding itself was just perfect, held right on the water with amazing appetizers served by their very friendly staff after the ceremony. The ballroom was beautifully decorated. Our meals came out at the same time, surf n turf...amazing filets, shrimp, not so much:( very strong fishy taste, and sadly no one at our table ate them. Breakfast this morning was delish, Lois was our very nice and patient waitress. Loved my Spa Omelette, and enjoyed sitting in a large rocker by the water before we left. Will definitely go back again! « less
