The Edgewater is a historic bed & breakfast style inn with a casual atmosphere where guests commonly intermingle as in days of old. Originally constructed in 1926, the hotel has recently undergone a complete historic restoration to return it to its original look and ambiance. All rooms are nonsmoking antique-style accommodations located on the second floor. Each room is individually decorated to preserve the historic essence of the Edgewater’s rich heritage. Carefully hidden within the old Florida elegance, modern conveniences such as cable television, climate control, and internet access provide guests with the comforts of today without detracting from the antique atmosphere. Authentic touches abound from the linens to the fixtures on the original sinks and tubs. The hotel offers both single rooms with a private bathroom and two-room suites that feature two private bedrooms connecting through one shared bathroom. The original 1926 elevator is still in operation, but requires the assistance of staff. The first floor features a restaurant serving traditional Florida-style cuisine.
The Edgewater is located in the heart of Winter Garden’s newly restored downtown featuring shops, eateries, museums and direct access to the West Orange Trail, a 22 mile scenic jogging, biking, blading, or strolling path. The Trail provides an excellent opportunity for those who wish to view Florida’s flora and fauna as it really was in bygone days. Although most guests of the Edgewater come to enjoy the quieter attractions of Central Florida, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World are all within a 15 to 30 minute drive.
The Edgewater is a step back in time to the casual elegance of yesteryears. Many guests describe their stay as being like going to grandma’s house or back to their childhood home. Indeed, the Edgewater is a home for some members of its staff in the tradition of bed & breakfast lodging. It is unlike any other hotel in the Central Florida area in that it is not just a night’s stay, but an experience.

We stayed one night (Friday), in the corner room above the Tasting Room. Could hear a bit of the live music from below, but not at all too loud. Enjoyed looking out the windows, but the window treatments were the weak link in the decor. Shower curtain rod on the tub is a bit too close to the back wall, making the space narrow. Would have liked nightstands on both sides of the bed, not just one. We had the thermostat for 2 rooms in ours, which made us hesitant to adjust it. The building is a charming period piece, which could be even better capitalized upon. Overall, truly historic, a little quirky, a great location, and a good value. « less

Family owned and run, and it shows. This is not somewhere to go to watch TV or sit and work on the internet, this is a quaint, very social bed and breakfast that is geared towards romantic getaways. The rooms are nicely decorated and have an old-fashioned appeal that manages not to be an affectation.
Everything is nearly spotless, the staff is very responsive. Their friendliness isn't an act, and they aren't just killing time, they live at the hotel and it's their family's livelihood. The place is owned by a small christian music band, and while there are a few reminders of this posted about, it's not obtrusive enough to be offensive.
Breakfast is fantastic, and if one is so inclined, it's possible to sneak out to the common area for a quietly toasted midnight snack! Plenty of decent restaurants on the same block as the hotel, including the Chef's Table, which Zagat gave a 28.
Alas, on the down side, this place caters heavily towards morning folk. It's possible to get ahold of staff late at night, but you're likely to be waking them up to do so. Amenities are few. The elevator requires an employee to operate, the wireless internet is intermittent at best and doesn't work in all rooms, no room fridges or ice machine, televisions are old and there's no way to play a rented/brought DVD. No hot tubs, pools, or exercise areas are available, though there's a bike rental place across the street that makes exercise into a cheap activity.
Overall this place is absolutely fantastic, provided your expectations are properly calibrated. My girlfriend practically melted at the atmosphere, and I'm afraid I won't be able to replicate the effect on travels elsewhere after this! « less

This was our 2nd stay here. We first found this a month ago while planning a trip to another close by town for our daughters Gymnastics competition. We loved it then so when we found out her State Meet was going to be in Winter Gardens we called and reserved the same room we had the first time. If Ur looking for "Bells & Whistles" this is not Ur place but if U want something Old Fashion and one of a kind this is the place to stay. The women who run are all sooooo sweet and do whatever they can to get U what U ask for. They cook breakfast at Ur request and it is all very good and fresh. They leave out coffee, tea with all the fixins, fruit & snacks & mints to get whenever U want all day long. The rooms are decorated with antiques and patchwork style quilts on the beds. The beds were very comfortable. When we returned for our 2nd stay they had added cushioned mattress tops to all the beds. I did bring my own pillow tho because I found theirs firmer than I prefer. This place is smack in the middle of the quaint strip with several restaurants and the bicycle rental is directly across the street. I highly recommend taking the bike ride thru the path. It was wonderfully fun. Saturday morning they have a market with the basic fruits & vegetables but also lots of venders selling a huge variety of items and LIVE music from locals. It was delightful also. We will definately go back. « less

This was our second stay here, both times to bicycle the Wet Orange Trail. The Edgewater is old, with the original furniture and fixtures, but spotlessly maintained and operated. Our double bed had a good mattress, but we didn't care for the plastic mattress cover under the sheet. The location in-town is perfect - it's the only lodging I saw In the vicinity. The staff consists of five pleasant, competent, young women who operate the hotel, plus raise their children on the top floor of the historic bldg. this hotel is a good choice for this downtown that brought itself back from the dead, when the citrus industry left and the strip malls and chain restaurants lured people out of the downtown. (P.S. if it's warm weather, go to the random water jet plaza a block to the west and watch the children gleefully running through the jets of water. If that doesn't bring a smile to your face, all hope is lost.) « less
