We didn't need a lot of room or luxury, so saved about $70 over our usual hotel down the street, and originally paid for two nights through hotels.com.
Yes, the room was VERY small, and the furniture was scuffed. However, the carpet seemed new, and the tiny bathroom had granite counters and seemed completely remodeled. The TV was fine, as was the internet connection. Toiletries were excellent, although there was no iron or coffeepot, but there was a refrigerator, always handy to have. The bed was comfortable and everything was spotless.
Breakfast was minimal, but had all the basic essentials, fruit, a pastry or toast, beverage, with toaster waffles and french toast as well. Yogurt or hard boiled eggs to add some protein would have been a great addition, but we could have provided that in the fridge in our room.
Very late, I found out that my business appointment the next afternoon had been suddenly canceled. Unfortunately, I couldn't reach someone we had planned to meet for dinner afterward that night. Very early the next morning, I got a text saying that we could substitute lunch, so we could, if the hotel was cooperative, leave for home early. Hotels.com said that if the hotel was OK with it, they would issue a refund. I didn't think the hotel clerk would be able to do that, but he immediately was very nice, and agreed! Then, because my ATT cell phone would not work there, he also dialed the call on his phone to Hotel.com and took care of it on the spot. That way, we were able to stay at a hotel that night along the road to home and shave hours off our trip the next day -- welcome after a grueling 3 days of business.
If you need space and luxury, then no, but a great place to lay your head with personal problem solving available, a definite "yes." « less

It doesn't look like much from the street, but you pull in and find a nicely kept one story court. Our room had a nicely painted and upgraded room and bath with tile floor bath and crown molding in the bedroom. Small bedroom for two beds. Wireless internet was fast and easy. New flat screen TV. Breakfast was toaster waffles or English muffins or packaged danish. But doffee was good and hot. We will stay again for the low price. « less

We stayed just one night to visit our son for his 30th birthday. One night was plenty. From the outside it looks nice and is very convenient to downtown Berkeley. Unfortunately, the property is quite tired even though some updates have been made. Beds are doubles, that is all that is available. Morning was quite noisy but the coffee was very good! Just small, a little dingy and dark. I wouldn't plan a trip to stay there especially considering the price. Next time, we will stay elsewhere. « less

Stayed there for 5 nights. One good thing is it is close to BART station - Berkeley North. (5 min walk). It has got few restaurants close by - Indian Food, HImalayan Flavor, pizza places and couple of cafes. But nothing else. If you do not have a car, its far away from amenities.
Service was average, rooms are fine. Complimentary breakfast is also not bad. (given its price). We could not get the telephone in the room fixed, but was ok not big deal. Enough parking space. « less

On the positive side, this property is certainly nicer than most Rodeway Inns. The exterior is very appealing with flowers, fountains, picnic tables etc. The room had things you don't expect in a Rodeway like granite in the bathroom. The wifi was excellent, which is very important to me. The breakfast was decent - props to them for having quality healthy bread, as well as Dannon yogurt and frozen waffles available. The lack of hot chocolate was a drawback, but there was a great coffee stand half a block away that provided it.
Now for the drawbacks. A couple of the features that most drew me to the hotel were major disappointments, such as the refrigerator that froze solid a large tub of yogurt and a turkey sandwich. I had planned my trip to do laundry at the Rodeway, only to be told that the guest laundry was broken. It should be noted as well that its hours are 10 am to 9 pm even when it is working, which provides limited time for those who are out on business all day. When I booked on the Choice Hotels website, the room description mentioned an alarm clock, but there was none to be found. There were a few staples coming out of the carpet in my room. Finally, there was no ironing equipment, which is perhaps not a huge surprise for a basic motel. « less

"My sons play for a travel baseball organization with 8 different teams. We travel throughout the southeast to various tournaments. This will save the team administrators a great deal of time. I have passed your information off to the other administrators so you will probably be hearing form them as well. Thanks again!!!" S.M. - Birmingham, AL
