Booked non-smoking room, even typed it in request, & also asked from desk clerk before signing my bill if it was non & she said yes it was non smoking. Female traveling alone. Walked up to the room, after being approached by a guy hanging outside by front door who then came in & asked to carry my bags, said no thanks & he made a comment about I must have big muscles...CREEPY!! Opened the door & the smell of smoked knocked me down & yes I 100% know what that smells like & if u don't want to take my word...I found ash tray on the desk. Walked down to the front desk to get a refund to go else where (lady very nice but told me that was non smoking but people sometimes smoke in them, I said ma'am there was an ash tray on the desk), to find about 5 guys hanging out in chairs right at front doors, the lady kindly have me my money back & I got in my car, smelling of smoke from only being in that "non-smoking room" for less than 5 mins & I left at 12:30 am in search of another hotel on BBQ & Blues weekend...not fun! « less

All i'm going to say is that you have options. There's lots of hotels in the downtown area...Unfriendly/not helpful front office staff.......asked for a restaurant that delivered and the answer i got was, ( we have the flyers at the front desk) asked for a cab company's phone number , and the clerk gave me what I thought was a cab drivers number. When i went down stairs it wasn't a cab driver at all, she had given me the number to a family member..I was totally freaking out, however I didn't want to miss my flight. Just remember, you have options. « less

I lived and grew up in Memphis. I live in Colorado now for the past eight years. I love the wonderful aspects of the city which inched my favorites Wild Bills and Gus' Fried Chicken and Earnistine ans Hazels. I have to say that visiting here at the Econo Lodge and staying in my "home town" the door man named Will was the absolute reason why I love Memphis! It's the way that you meet someone by chance while waiting for your friend to check in and get along! I wish him all the best in his journey back home to NY. And just so you know your house soaps stink! « less

It was dusk when we came to this Hotel, from the road it looked just fine, When we booked in we specifically asked for a non smoking room. We were given a room on the ground floor, and as soon as I put my head in the door the smell of stale tobacco hit you. We went back to reception & they gave us another room upstairs. The corridor and stairs were dirty and smelled even more of stale smoke. Once in our room the smell was ok, that is until we used the towels or went to bed, all the linnen & towels were steeped in the smell of tobacco, - I guess they had been stored in a room where people smoked heavily. Outside the double door entrance was a large bin with the top tray covered in cigarette buts which didn't add to the attraction' The room itself was dark and depressing. One of the lamps didn't work, and we couldn't even read in bed. The only saving grace to this Hotel was the breakfast room which was clean & pleasant.. We have used Econo Lodges several times in America most of them have been excellent for the price.....this wasn't one of them. « less
