I've stayed at this hotel many times over the last 20 years for an annual meeting. It gets worse very year. Summary of problems this trip: 1. Hallways are incredibly warm and uncomfortable. 2. Sink drained very slowly 3. Shower/tub drained very slowly (about 1/3 full by end of shower) 4. Problems with door key a. Stayed for 3 nights. Key didn't work on second day. Had to replace it. b. When I asked for a new key, the front desk person simply asked me for my room number. He never asked for ID. I could have asked for a key to any room! 5. I know it hasn't shrunk, but I don't recall the bathroom being so small. The door has about 2 inch clearance from the toilet.
On a positive note, the food at a banquet at the hotel was good. I was expecting rubber chicken, but was pleasantly surprised. Also, the bed was very comfortable.

I stayed overnight on a business trip. The room was well appointed, but nothing special. The room was just clean, not over the top clean. (stains on the bathroom walls, corners and edges of the carpet needed vacuumed, I didn't trust the look of the water glasses) In addition, the bathroom ceiling was pealing as a result of no ventilation system to get rid of moisture. The tub had mildew in the caulk of the tiles and missing caulk on the faucet, which caused water to pour into the gaping space. The walls are fairly thin and I could hear activity in the room next to me. They weren't overly loud, but I could hear them moving about in their room and their t.v. The bed was fine, not extremely comfortable, but I attribute that to not being used to the bed. The staff was friendly and the hotel was easy to locate. I appreciated the free parking. I didn't utilize the workout room, although that is available. I was a little disappointed there was no onsite breakfast options, just room service, like $8 for oatmeal. If you need a safe, fairly clean place to stay in the Dayton area, it is a convenient location. « less

i appreciate the fridge in room and NO minibar! When traveling with young kids, minibars are the worst.
Thanks for a great place to hang out while the hubby does the ham radio thing! « less

Decided to stay here again after partaking in events downtown that involved alcohol.
This is actually a very nice place. I'll expound on my last review and say that the TV has a good selection of channels, and most of those are in HD. Also, the hotel offers free Wi-Fi and self-parking, which is unusual in this caliber of a hotel. Upscale shampoo, soap, spa, and aromatherapy products are also provided in the room. They have a restaurant on the top floor. Even the restaurant prices seemed more than reasonable (although I did not eat in the restaurant).
Management response from Hotel Manager, General Manager
Dear fedacct Thank you for your review, and kudos to you for choosing to stay overnight with us as opposed to being out on the road driving. We are glad you were able to enjoy our amenities package, and the HD televisions that are a recent addition. Since you are a local resident maybe you will be able to come back some evening and visit the restaurant, we have live entertainment Wednesday through Saturday. I will be sure and share with the staff your kind comments and we look forward to seeing you again.
Sincerely,
Michael Larson General Manager

I chaperoned five high school students from Upstate New York for four nights at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) at the Crowne Plaza Dayton hotel in the beginning of May, 2013. This is an old hotel, but the management makes every effort to make it attractive. One of the most attractive features is that the window for each room spans the entire length of the outside wall, so that viewing pleasure is maximized. The restaurant on the 12th (top) floor apparently has panoramic views in all directions, but I did not check this out. The hotel is connected by a third-level pedestrian bridge to the convention center across the street. Most of my time was spent in the convention center, which had adequate and attractive space.
I had no need to interact with the hotel staff, but several delegates at the Symposium commented at the great helpfulness of the staff. I did note that one of the three elevators failed early Saturday evening, and I was impressed that it was back in operation later in the evening. The food at the hotel and at the convention center (I did not ask if this was under the same management) was entirely adequate. The fact that chicken was served all four nights was probably due to the choices made by the Symposium management, and should not be blamed on the hotel. The Crowne Plaza is certainly head and shoulders above the hotel that was used for our overflow, the Dayton Grand Hotel, because several guests at that hotel reported that the air conditioning was not working.
Dayton is not an attractive city, and I can think of no reason for staying at the Crowne Plaza if one does not have an event at the hotel, convention center, or have business in the city. There are many hotels along the nearby interstates which would be more convenient if I were traveling through the area. My students were the very best (all seniors, they are committed to attending Penn, Brown, Harvard, Yale, and Stanford). I let them go out the first evening as a group. They returned in less than 30 minutes. “We weren’t expecting much, but this is less than what we were expecting.” I accompanied one student to buy wetting drops at the nearby CVS pharmacy before it closed at 5 PM on a week day.
All in all, this was a satisfactory experience. I have no particular wish for our symposium to ever come back to Dayton (even though the nearby Air Force Museum is vast and very interesting), but, if it does, this is the place to stay. « less
