I stayed here for 1 night with 18 other cyclists as we did a 180 mile ride through South Yorkshire into the Derbyshire Peaks. The rooms were large, and well appointed. The in-house restaurant had a 2 course buffet on so rather than dragging our weary legs to the Toby Carvery half a mile away, we plumbed for the in-house food and were not disappointed.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and have not found anything to compare in the Holiday Inn chain. The staff cannot do enough for you and no task is too small. They are ready to give any information you require and if there is a problem they are happy to deal with it immediately. The hotel is situated in the village of Dodworth which is just off J37 of M1. The village of Dodworth is a short 5 minute walk away and has most facilities you would require and the locals are friendly. We stayed for a week this time and will be returning again soon as it is always a pleasure to stay at this hotel. « less

We've just spent 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Barnsley to visit family living local to the hotel. We often have big family meals in the Butler Suite and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. Staying there is a bit different.
The room we were given was adequate size-wise, with a separate z-bed for our daughter (aged 2). The mattress on the king sized bed was too soft for our liking and had a nasty case of roll together. We couldn't use the safe because it had no batteries. The bathroom was really tired and dated, and it was impossible to have a shower that stayed hot - it was hot then cold then hot and so on - no matter what time of day. There was a sign asking us to reuse our towels, which we always do, but with no towel rail (heated or otherwise) we ended up with a bedroom strewn with damp towels.
There were large functions on on 2 of the nights of our stay, but we couldn't hear any noise from that in the room. However, we heard every conversation our neighbours had and a complete episode of Match of the Day through the wall on one night. Not good.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was breakfast. It was included in our room rate, which was just as well as the £14 per person price tag for non inclusive rates must be some kind of sick joke. Paper napkins, serve yourself buffet, the cheapest bread and fruit juice and weak tea poured by the waitress. No menus on tables. Not much choice for vegetarians on the hot buffet, especially once you see the cook lift bacon from a tray over the dish of mushrooms, dripping them with bacon fat. The next day the bacon was behind the mushrooms, so the fat would drip over them as guests helped themselves. Clearly no thought given to this!! No-veggie husband was quite happy with the sausages and black pudding offered though. When the hotel is quiet they cook food to order and bring tea in individual pots, which is much better.
Bar food and drinks are extortionate but in line with other hotels (£4.50 for a pint of Peroni).
Not sure about staying here again. Might try some of the other hotels in the area.

We spent the weekend visiting our son in Barnsley and took advantage of the special offer. Our room was clean, with everything we required. The hotel is modern, and has excellent facilities. All the staff we encountered were helpful, friendly and keen to provide good service with a smile. The leisure facilities were also good. Thank you to all for great break. « less

Seven family members stayed here to visit relatives close by and to celebrate a birthday. The rooms were very bright and spacious, but the bed was too soft for me and our plumbing let us down during the night but did clear by morning. The walls are very thin and we could clearly hear the people in the room next to ours. The breakfast is very good, freshly cooked and not sitting there for hours. The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite at all times. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"When people provide customer friendly service in today’s world, it should be applauded! So many businesses have taken almost and adversarial attitude towards the customer, in other words, they over compensate for a consumer not following through. As a business, it is my understanding, that the business should always follow through and do as they promise! Loyalty between consumers and businesses should remain alive, profit above service is a bad plan and will cost the business in the long run!" R.F. - Denver, CO
"Thank you very much for all your assistance/followups. Our meeting went very well. The ease of using your site was just GREAT! It made my job so much easier. Everyone was very pleased with the location and accomodations of the hotel selected. I will recommend you to anyone I know that books meetings within our organization. It's a good site."
