We were a group of 3 couples that came to Statesville for a family wedding. Each couple had a King Suite room. Oooh La La. What a great room with a 42" TV, huge seating area with a loveseat and desk, an area with a microwave and sink, and a fridge. This hotel is the cleanest I've ever stayed in. The beds and linens are top of the line and so comfortable. I also like the lack of bedspread. So much cleaner to have the fresh bedding. A wonderful bathroom with built-in shelves at the vanity for all your toiletries and makeup. The breakfast is great and every member of the staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. They even let us play cards with our family in the breakfast room after the wedding on Saturday evening. This was a pricey room, but you get what you pay for. My only complaint would be the painfully slow elevator. 4 floors and 1 slow elevator. Worked OK until lots of people wanted to use the carts to haul luggage to the room. The hotel is new and everything looks it. We'll stay here for future family events. « less

We got a "suite" with a fold-out bed, and were on the third floor. One of the beds was the squeakiest I've ever heard -- it squeaked loudly whenever someone turned over. (The other bed was quiet and comfy.) The road noise was significant. And in the early morning I could hear footsteps above me -- it must have been a little one running around. Luckily I brought a small fan to drown out the noise. Overall a noisier experience than I'd expect.
Also there was an issue with the threshold going into the bathroom -- you really had to push to close the door.
Breakfast was HIE standard stuff but pancake maker was out of order. « less

Myself, my wife and kids stayed here on March 15th, 2013. We had booked the room prior to arrival through Priority Club. We pretty much always look for a Holiday Inn because they're usually clean and we feel comfortable with them. We were VERY pleasantly surprised with the room and the stay. Not sure if the hotel is new or newly remodeled but the room was very clean. If the shower, bathroom ceiling and floor are clean and the rug appears clean then that's a pretty good indication. This room was spotless !! Huge TV, huge room and 2 REALLY comfy beds ! The morning meal was the usual but it was tasty and the dining room was spacious.
My complaints.. The 2nd floor ice machine was broken but it did have a sign labeling it as such and directed me to other floors. No problem. Those machines are temperamental, big deal.. My issue is this.. I was driving my family back home from Disney all the way to Western NY. Statesville is our half way point. I drove for 11 hours and was tired and a little ornery maybe and when I approached the gal at the front desk around 7:30 I was the only person at the counter. When I arrive at a hotel all I want is prompt, friendly service. This gal was busy folding some papers and slooooowly putting them in her folder, locking something up in the desk, etc. She gave me a casual "How are you, how can I help you ?". I couldn't even hear her voice.. It literally took her over a minute and a half to assist me. Jeez !!! Once she got my name and found I was a Priority Club member all she had to do is give me the keys to my room because everything is already taken care of . Then I got to my room and the keys wouldn't work. I went down to have her re-code them and she asked me if I had kept the keys next to my phone because this can deactivate the code. I don't know... Maybe I did. I didn't care at the time really. I took the keys back up and they worked. Then I couldn't log in to the Internet via my phone or my laptop. I tried 3 times for each device. Something was wrong. I called the front desk and got my friend. She interrupted me while I was explaining the issue and practically yelled at me that " You need to come down to the front desk and get the code" (which I already had on my paperwork as usual) and then just yelled 'staysmart' and then we hung up. This did not work so I called back and re-explained my problem. I told her I HAD the code and that it did not work. She barely acknowledged me on the phone and just said "Maybe the server is having problems, I'll reset it and it will take a minute". About 2 minutes later I was able to log in.
I don't complain much because I was previously in the Customer Service business for many years. I have patience. But at the end of a long day the last thing I need is attitude and lack of service. I just feel like she should have dropped what she was doing immediately (like every other hotel I've EVER stayed at), got me my room and then answered the phone courteously and assisted me. I got attitude..
The lady at the desk in the morning (a different one) was very friendly and chatted about the weather and asked if my stay was good. Nice touch in my opinion !!!
By the way.... Try the pizza, wings, etc at "Olde 1849 Pizza and Wings" at the bottom of the parking lot. I'm from the Buffalo area and work down town so I know wings. The food was pretty darn good for a Southern city doing something not traditionally Southern. Pricy but good food and courteous service ! « less

We were not impressed with this hotel. The hair dryer in our room didn't work, and we waited a half hour for a replacement. I like oatmeal for breakfast, but all they offered were the small packages of grits or flavored oatmeal that you mix with hot water. I would choose another hotel when we find ourselves in the area again. « less
