Me and my partner were visiting the Cliveden as a birthday treat for me. The entrance was grand and spectacular, we parked right outside the place. Really breathtaking on arrival. We arrived at midday expecting to walk around the grounds and leave our cases in the car but were greeted at the entrance by a welcoming employee who helped us in with our bags and said he would check if our room was ready. The room was ready early so we were invited to book in where we were informed we'd been upgrade to the Stanford suite! So from the beginning we were impressed and delighted and it only got better! The customer service was second to none we have ever experienced. Our suite was unbelievable, a real treat. The lounge was spacious with everything you would need with a sofa and smart tv and radio. We had a bathroom and an extra toilet. The bathtub was really deep and spacious, the whole suite was grand. Our bags were brought up right away, when shown to our room we were told about the history of Cliveden. Everything was superb. We then asked about the spa at reception and were taken there and showed around by another employee who was pleasant.
We had afternoon tea at Cliveden and it was out of this world. We sat in the lobby at tables, which sounds nothing special but you need to see the lobby! Amazing. Really lovely setting for our tea. The tea was delicious, the Cliveden blend and were tea leaves with pretty strainers. The cake stand was beautiful when brought out, really impressive. The individual quiches were still warm and delicious, the scones still warm also. The sandwiches were very tasty indeed. The cakes were really lovely too, presentation was outstanding and the taste even better! And we thought it was good value for money, because it was a very high standard of dining.
The spa was phenomenal! Views of the clock tower while in the outside hot tub was the highlight. Also the changing rooms are extremely well equipped with almost every item you could imagine needing! Curling tongs, straighteners, hair dryer, hair brush, hair spray, hair mousse, face cleanser, toner... the list goes on. Little touches go a long way, and i was really impressed. The outside pool and hot tubs were my favourite facilities, you just couldn't beat the view.
The gardens were beautiful, some lovely views and a good number of trails to follow. The grounds are a fitting setting for such a grand place.
We ordered room service pretty last minute, at 10.15 when it ended at 10.30. We ordered the steak and the burger and some drinks. The gentleman on the phone was very polite and said it will be 20 minutes. It came up right on time, the man who brought it up was friendly and set up our food and drinks on our table with condiments ready without us requesting. The food was brilliant, the steak cooked perfectly and the burger was lovely. A perfect end to a perfect day! And once we were finished we phoned down and the plates were cleared very quickly indeed.
From start to finish the Clivedon delivered a high quality service with very helpful staff, and we can honestly say it was one of our best experiences yet.
Thank you very much to everyone at the Cliveden, we will definitely be returning like most of the guests who visit! From Oliver and Sophie « less

My family and friends booked afternoon tea as a suprise for my baby shower. This is a place I had looked up a couple of months ago for a possible visit for our wedding anniversary so I had high expectations of what this would be like.
Unfortunately this did not meet the high expectations that I had, considering afternoon tea price can go up to £550.
The National Trust grounds are beautiful and the views spectacular.
The service I would say is the single thing that let this down. They were not very attentive and we had to ask for a top up of tea but it had been so long the tea was stewed and cold. We asked for a fresh pot which they brought but didn't clear the old cups away so we were left with a cramped table.
Also the selection of sandwiches could have been better. We asked for some plain ones and it took a very long time to come.
However the cake and scone selection was beautiful and there was no shortage of extra if we wanted. The quality was really good.
Overall for the money we paid for champagne afternoon tea (£44) was excellent along with the beautiful surroundings. I don't think I would have been happy if the service was the same standard and we had paid £550.

My husband and I visited Cliveden House just after celebrating our wedding at Claridge's. When booking at Cliveden, I made sure to mention numerous times that we were on a mini-honeymoon as, apparently hotels love to spoil guests who have a special celebration. I saw that there was one double room available online but when calling them was told that the double room was next to the kitchen and didn't have a view but that they could offer us a very special rate of £660/night for the Buckingham Suite.
We arrived on Sunday evening at 8.30, were shown up to our suite which was a lovely large bedroom, but was surprised it was called a suite as it was just one large room with a large bathroom. The porter proceeded to place our suitcases in the cupboard in the bathroom which meant that ti unpack them we had to lift them out of the cupboard. First impressions of the "suite": PROS -Nice view over the garden and the Thames
CONS -Heating was switched off and it was freezing. When we complained, they told us that they had switched all the heating off in the hotel due to weather. It was absolutely freezing outside and the heating in the public areas of the hotel were switched on! -No shower in bathroom -Smell of old and tired furniture -Our celebratory gift was a complimentary apple, bunch of grapes and what looked like a flapjack -No minibar
We immediately ordered room service as the last order was at 10.30pm (would £660/night not warrant 24 hour room service?). We received a mediocre club sandwich and hamburger. The waiter who brought it was obviously rushed off his feet and in a terrible rush with perspiration running down his face. Once we had eaten, I called the main desk to ask for someone to bring us coffee and remove the empty plates from dinner. The same waiter appeared with coffee and when he was politely asked to remove the empty plates he said "with my hands? I don't have a tray"...he said he would come back but after 20 minutes I got impatient and took the plates downstairs myself! At 11.40pm we wanted something sweet to eat so I called down to ask for a Strawberry cheesecake. I was told by the person on the phone that "I will see what I can do and will let you know". 20 minutes the cheesecake arrived and was inedible. As this is a non-smoking establishment (and quite rightly so!), I went down the stairs to go outside and have a cigarette. By this time the entire lobby was empty. I was shocked to hear one of the waiters saying "She is there!", lots of laughing and giggling. This happened more than once during our stay. By this stage, my new husband and I decided we would only stay the one night and would leave the next day.
Monday morning we awoke to an incredibly cold room and realised one of the windows slid up in the night!? I had filled in the in room breakfast form the night before; I ordered coffee for two, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for two. When it arrived, there was only one coffee and one smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. I called down to the restaurant asking for one more coffee and was aggressively told "you only said you wanted one coffee on the form". At £660 a night, I would have thought I would have the right to BE right! By this stage, we were both feeling claustrophobic and could not wait to leave this nightmare hotel! My advice to anyone considering visiting this hotel is not to have high expectations or to stay somewhere else, such as the Waterside Inn where you will be looked after like royalty! This hotel is stunning from the outside but the management needs a full rehaul! « less

My girlfriend and I are doing an ad hoc tour of Relais & Chateaux hotels in UK. So, expectations are high and these weekends away are precious. At a hotel of this calibre, being part of the R&C marketing group and owned by the same folks as Chewton Glen, I did not expect some of the shortcomings that we experienced; blocked sink, rusty paper clip in loo, light bulbs not working and partially painted ceiling in the bedroom. The bed was really comfy and room was quiet. Staff were very friendly, attentive and polite, but a couple could do with a bit more training; silly little things that matter at this level of hotel - pouring coffee after we had asked her to leave it for the moment, not asking whether we wanted white or brown toast. The dinner was good, starters average, mains and desert fantastic. Sommelier perfect. Breakfast was good, but the quality of bread for the aforementioned toast was distinctly average. Now, critical as I am, they were brilliant in allowing us early access to the room after having just arrived from the US that morning. Stunning setting, but need to up the attention to detail. « less
