The Palace Hotel is a picture-perfect example of a classic, ornate, regal property complete with high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and marble details. This is a very specific style, so groups that want lively, trendy, or modern accommodations should not consider booking here. But, for elegant affairs, this hotel is perfect. Their most distinguishing feature is their "Garden Court" - a gorgeous room in the front of the hotel that allows tons of natural light to shine down (through a beautiful glass ceiling) on guests enjoying brunch. This space can also be used for events as it opens to meeting space on either side. The other spaces in the hotel are excellent as well, including a variety of muted boardrooms in private sections of the property. The one disappointment is that I thought the sleeping rooms, while very nice, were not quite as elegant as the rest of the hotel. This is definitely a hotel that features its common areas over its individual rooms. However, this should not be a big deterrent for groups, especially if their main focus is some kind of event rather than where everyone if sleeping. You would be hard pressed to find a setting more lovely than this in the city. Their location is also excellent for business or pleasure, straddling the financial district, Moscone, and Union Square.
