I stayed in this hotel in 1999 and nothing has changed. The decor of the rooms is still bland. Mine smelt of very old cigarette smoke. The breakfast wasn't particularly good quality. The pool is good but don't try and swim later in the day - there are too many others trying to do the same thing. I understand that it's a "government" hotel and it has a strangely bureacratic air. « less

We booked this hotel for our last night mainly because we wanted a pool. The room was ok - really big bed but the shower drain was clearly blocked so even a really short shower meant the bathroom floor was soaking. The pool was quite refreshing but again not amazing, cracked tiles around the pool were a bit dodgy. We arrived around 8pm and went out for something to eat - not really too much in the immediate vicinity in the dark when you're not too sure of the area - there was no info in reception or maps or anything. Breakfast was the worst breakfast we had in the whole trip - not worth getting up for! Really odd and we struggled to find a single thing to eat (and we are not fussy, but raw octopus in squid juice not appealing at any time!!) Plus side, it was only $36 dollars more to check out at 6pm which was convenient for our flight and the reception staff were quite helpful. « less

We stayed in the hotel for only one night (as we wanted a hotel with pool to have the opportunity to take a shower after our check out before flying back to Europe). For one night it’s ok, but longer stays cannot be recommended by us. Compared to other hotels in Saigon (we stayed in two more) and other places in Vietnam, the price (€ 36) was relatively high for what you get.
Pros: + The Vicotry Hotel is located close to the Reunification Palace, the Cathedral and the War Remnants Museum. + Our room was comparably large and clean. + The breakfast offers a broad variety of food.
Cons: - The furniture was relatively old as if coming from the seventies. There were arm chairs but the pillows were missing. An extra blanket (on demand) came without a cover. - There was a balcony but the door to it could not be opened. - In the breakfast room, a hotel manager “informed” us about the advantages of a government-run hotel from a TV screen. The sequence was repeated several times. - There were a lot of different and colorful uniforms around us (mostly security personnel). In addition, many areas (e.g. entrance hall, restaurant, floors) were observed by cameras. - The English knowledge of the staff was very limited. - In contrast to all other hotels we stayed in in Vietnam (approx. 15), there was no positive interaction between the staff and the guests. Therefore, the staff appeared to be "unfriendly". - During the check out, the receptionist kept our passports until a staff member had checked our room for damaged or stolen equipment (a related pricelist was already available in the room). We finally got our passports back with the words: “Everything is ok!”
To conclude: During our stay, we felt a little bit reminded to the old times in the GDR. In any case, we can state that this was the worst hotel we stayed in, during our holidays in Vietnam. « less

I booked this hotel on the strength of its location and rooftop pool and it was great for both. I had a deluxe room with a balcony, which was clean and modern, and a pretty decent size. Breakfast was included in the price, and it had a lot of options for Asian and Western guests alike. The style of the hotel is really geared towards business customers - it's fairly bland in that "international" way that makes you think you could be in any city in the world, however it's not like you come to a hotel to spend time in its corridors...! The rooftop pool was great - really clean and a good size. The only downside was that it was used for swimming lessons for local children and there were times when the pool was too busy to use, as well as the inevitable crying and screaming of small children... I read reviews that the staff at the front desk were unhelpful and unfriendly. I didn't find this to be the case, but I think because they didn't speak too much English, I can understand why people would have this opinion. The location is really great - mere steps from the War Remnants Museum and about 10 minutes stroll to Notre Dame Cathedral. I payed $40 per night, which was a great price and I would definitely stay here in future. « less

The Victory Hotel was an older, but clean and well maintained hotel. The top floor has a pool and gym. The ground floor has a great breakfast buffet included in the price of the room. Decent sized rooms with mini bars, AC, all the amenities you want, but at a reasonable price. About 50 USD per night. Good location right next to the War Remnants Museum. « less
