At first view this hotel has some surface resemblence to a sister hotel, the Clarion Tarentum Bridge in Lower Burrell, Pa, a pestalence hole where the rooms are filthy and the staff is surly. All similarities end, however, in the building's age, rambling layout, and some superficial design characteristics.
The Comfort Inn has been recently refurbished and restored. The building is exceptionally clean and quiet and all of the staff I encounterd (including cleaning and maintenance staff) were extremely cheerful and helpful. The hotel has what appears to be a very new indoor pool and a very nice fitness facility that houses some of the highest quality work out equipment (treadmills and eliptical) I've seen in a mid-priced hotel. There is a full breafast offered in a very nice (if small) room off the lobby. .
The room included a refrigerator and a microwave, both of which worked (not true in all the budget hotels I've had the misfortune of staying at). I saw WIFI advertised; however, I didn't use it. There were plenty of recepticals for electronics plug in, a clock radio, a coffee maker, and plenty of lights. Our room included an overstuffed chair with a hassock as well as a desk and a flat screen TV and an ironing board and iron. All of the flat surfaces were finished with a laminate, which is very handy and much more durable than the faux wood surfaces on most desks and chests.
We had a king sized bed, which was moderately comfortable. The hotel offers the usual array of puffy, hard, small pillows most hotels seem to be offering, so if that sort of pillow doesn't help your sleep, I'd suggest taking your own. The shower was powerful and there was lots of hot water. The towels were large and fluffy, although a couple of extras (there were only two) would have been appreciated.
This hotel is located directly adjacent to Route 28 (right off the north bound entrance ramp), although we heard no road noise (we were not on the side facing the highway). There appeared to be no restaurants in the immediate area, as this seems to be at the edge of an office park and there is very little room between the Allegheny River and the bluffs beside it at this point. There was a Max and Erma's listed on the signs on Route 28; however this restaurant was not anywhere within sight. The nearest restaurants appear to be one exit north on 28 (others may be available at the next exit south). « less
