Stayed at this hotel during the last week of April. The location is right if you want to be near the Dover Downs Casino and various chain eateries. The good are as follows: the central location; the price (among the lowest-priced hotels in the area); the comfortable beds with plush pillows; the plethora of parking spaces; the in-room refrigerators and microwaves; and the relatively friendly service.
The bad consists of hotel rooms YET to be redesigned and renovated in accordance with most other Red Roof Inns; the old-fashioned cathode ray tube televisions that are huge and suffers in picture quality; the lack of a strong Wi-Fi in all parts of the room; the towels having a weird odor; the lack of shampoo bottled (opting for shampoo packets instead); and the lack of breakfast options in the morning.
The ugly is primarily in the form of an unprofessional demeanor when I walked into the lobby. I have nothing against families of Indian descent, but when I walked in, there was a familiar pungent odor of "curry" dishes and Indian home cooking (of which I am a fan in a restaurant--not in a hotel lobby). Furthermore, it seems as though the whole family was working in the hotel and treating the lobby and hallway as if it were their own living room. A kid was running around from the desk to the vending machine; a grandmother was vegetating near the entrance; some old guy was wandering the parking lot; and the clerk (who had to be rung from behind at 3:00 PM) was dressed in an all-too-casual short-sleeved shirt bearing no logo of Red Roof or any indication that he even worked for the hotel. I have no problem with casual Monday through Sunday, but at least let me know that you work for the hotel or have some affiliation with the hotel industry.
Also, the walls were in severe need of a paint job and cleaning, as there was an overall air of dinginess in the rooms.
Aside from the lack of business professionalism, a comfortable night was the saving grace, but I think the customers should be treated to some modicum of professionalism. Having your family hang around the guests doesn't exactly yell "welcome." « less

For the past couple of years my wife and I have made frequent 2-3 day trips to Delaware to look around the area for possible retirement homes.
We have stayed in almost every hotel/motel in the area. We now stay the Red Roof Inn-Dover as it is centrally located and only about an hour's drive to anywhere in the state.
The property has improved greatly in the past year. On this trip we noticed fresh paint and new carpeting.
As one reviewer stated, it isn't the Ritz BUT you can't beat the value and the staff's desire to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. « less

We've stayed many times in Red Roof Inns, and are really pleased with the remodelling and upgrading they are performing in many of their locations. The really comfortable beds at this quality location, like some of the others, is a definite plus. Our overnight stay was very restful. The gentleman at the concierge was even kind enough to reassign us to an alternate room that was available early because I was feeling ill, and inquired about my status as we left the next day. This hotel was in an excellent location for dining within walking distance. We would definitely choose this Red Roof Inn if we visit this area again. Their rates were definitely competitive. « less
