Nice place to stay but a little pricy for what you get which is a standard room. What makes it nice is the location and the restaurants/shops/riverfront that you have easy access to. The price they charge is similar to what I have paid for the JW Marriott Hotels which are much nicer. « less

Detroit needs some 5 star hotels. That being said The Detroit Marriott was very comfortable as you would expect from a Marriott. It is big and could use a redo, It's starting to show it's age. In Detroit you really only have 3 choices downtown. The Marriott, The Book Cadilac and the Doubletree. I am not one to stay at a casino. The bed was great the view was nice and the bathroom a bit small. I thought the staff was very nice and helpfull. I was only in for a couple days so it was fine. But for $200. throw in the parking. « less

The Marriott at the "RenCen" as some locals call it, overlooks the wide Detroit River that separates the US from Canada. An area of concrete steps on the river side is a popular place for viewing Windsor, Canada, with its Caesar's Casino, and watching the ships pass by. Andiamo's Italian Restaurant has a small outdoor seating area and provides comfortable, well-prepared dishes at moderate price. There's also a Joe Muer Seafood restaurant whose upscale prices sent me, via the 'Peoplemover' tram, to nearby Greektown for a more affordable meal.
My room on the 27th floor offered fascinating views of the river, Cobo Center, a riverboat, and also the queue where vehicles line up for the US-Canada tunnel. Rooms were clean and well-appointed, although there was a noisy conversation among the staff in the hall one afternoon. The ice maker across the hall was a little annoying sometimes as well.
Perhaps, my major complaint was the confusing lay-out of the walkways on the lower floors. Floor numbers don't seem to match up and the elevators and escalators require GPS to find your way to lower level shopping and eating areas. It took me a couple of days to find my way to the Starbucks, for example --- but never mind, I found a nice coffee shop elsewhere in the complex -- and it is a complex. I also found it interesting that some of the signage that is supposed to help you has arrows that point in opposite directions for the same destination. I wish they'd make up their mind! And if you're bored with your meeting, you can visit a showroom of GM vehicles on the lower level (I don't know what floor number to call it). The talking elevators tell you to use your key card to access the upper levels, which is fine, but after a few rides up and down, it tends to be a trifle annoying.
Overall, this is a nice property in which to hold a conference for over 1000 people. « less

This is a huge hotel, which caters to conferences and conventions. I stayed for three nights in connection with a conference. All the rooms are the same. I stayed in a "concierge level" room, which is the same as all the other rooms except that you have access to the lounge, which serves a nice breakfast and has a cocktail hour in the evening, but you must pay for anything alchoholic. The room was reasonably comfortable except for a few small annoyances that you would not expect in a top class hotel: several large stains on the carpet, furniture somewhat worn and dated, no glasses in room, not even in bathroom, only paper cups. The staff were polite and responsive. I would stay here again in connection with a conference at this hotel, but probably not otherwise. Note: for internet in the room you must pay $12.95/day. « less
