Having been disappointed recently with the full-service Marriotts (JW London?? etc) that I've stayed at, I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here. First, the front desk staff couldn't have been friendlier or more welcoming (hint to Marriott corporate----send the GM from this hotel to your upscale properties so he/she can train them properly!). I was greeted by both staff members behind the desk (I arrived when no one was in line) and assisted by a staff person who took the extra time to make sure that not only were my amenities correct but also pointed out where to get the elevators and what I could access (e.g. the Starbucks was closed for renovations).
The hotel is located next to the World Trade Center building site so currently there is a lot of construction and road closures in the area. In addition, pay attention to the directions for walking here if coming from the subway as you need to orient yourself correctly or else you'll be walking to Wall St. when exiting the nearest subway. Rooms are larger than most for NYC and comfortable (standard Marriott fare). The exercise room is well equipped and adequate. While this is more of a business hotel, don't be afraid to walk around to nearby Pearl Street for a great area of restaurants and bars at night (yes, even on the weekends----people do live here after all!).
Given the bargain price for weekend stays in NYC and great service, I would definitely stay here again. Well done Marriott (finally!). « less

I was housed here for four nights in May for a conference being held there. I’d never stayed that far south on the island before, and it was a novel experience to be not only next to the 9/11 memorial site but where much of Hurricane Sandy damage had occurred less than a year prior.
As expected in a large chain hotel, the service was consistent and disciplined, and slightly older staff (in a good way) than the younger hipper staff (which sometimes comes with attitude) sometimes manning a boutique hotel.
That being said, the entire feel is quite generic and sterile and mass-oriented. The rooms are quite big, especially for Manhattan, as are the bathrooms, and my room had quite a big window with lots of light and a decent view. And while the amenities are solid (spot on AC that was quiet, good bed linens and pillows, lots of towels although a bit worn out, Aveda products), there are curious things missing. No robe (had to request one), no slippers, and no curtains. Seriously, just these sheer things that you can pull across the windows but nothing to block out the city or morning light. It’s also a big hotel with many floors, and you often have a long wait for the elevators during peak hours. Ultimately, the fact that you also feel that you could be really anywhere in the world doesn’t make the stay special.
If what you want is predictability and consistency, this is a good place for you. If you are looking for something a bit more boutique and likely at a lower price, then it’s worth doing a bit of research for something else.
As for location, you’re close to the 1 and R lines, but not really close to much else. Restaurants are only ok nearby, but you’re only a couple blocks away from the promenade that stretches down from Riverside Park to Battery Park with beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty, etc, along the west side of the island. Great walking/running path.
As for price, I’d inquired on the special rate we were given, which was surprisingly high. I’d just stayed at the Tribeca Grand, which was much more luxurious and special and in a more interesting part of town, for $80 less a night if you pay for wi-fi ($12.95 each day!). « less

This hotel is a beautiful Marriott. The staff is attentive and extremely professional. The rooms were exceptionally clean and a great size for New York City. The drawbacks.....the Starbucks was closed for "renovation" and the lovely bar and grill area in the lobby were closed for "renovations", as well.....at the same time! What? It was like staying in a Motel .....no place for coffee in the morning or drink in the evening. Thank goodness the concierge was well stocked! Also, this next comment is no reflection on the Marriott, but trying to drive here is a real nightmare. With the WTC construction, it is almost impossible to arrive at this destination by car! « less

My family and I stayed for 3 days while sightseeing in New York. Right downtown, and across from the WTC, the Marriott made an ideal location for exploring the area. The room itself was average, but spacious, for a New York hotel. The building we found very nice, the staff friendly and helpful. I felt the price was a little steep for a family but, hey, it's New York!
We enjoyed our time in New York and would recommend the Marriott for anyone looking to sight see the City. « less

Nice place. You don't go there thinking it is a Resort as it is not. It is just a clean, well located, nicely priced hotel. Staff is great and the Concierge Level is exceptional. Gym is no big deal and that is being nice. « less
