I stayed in HOJO's on my way to SC and kept the room for a second night for my return. The first night I noticed there weren't any lightbulbs in any of the lamps. Because I was so tired, I just went to sleep and used the bathroom light and the one near the door to see. The next day as we traveled back, my wife called the hotel and spoke to a girl and told her we needed light bulbs in the room. She said she'd take care of it and when we got there around 1145 at night, we still didn't have bulbs! « less

I've reviewed this hotel before, but I have stayed here again this year in March and April, thus the additional review. Fancy or upscale? No. Spacious and clean? Yes. Comfortable beds, extra sink outside of the bathroom in the two double bed room that I usually stay in. The staff is very helpful and across the board easy to deal with. Breakfast is basic, and they have done away with the hard boiled eggs that work so well for me in a rush. They do have waffles apples, pastries, cereal, etc.
I ask for a quiet room on the mountainview side and they have always delivered. There is a patio door to a small balcony with a stunning view. With the horse show rates, the price is very reasonable.
I have stayed at many hotels in the area through the years and this is the one that I keep returning to given the price, spacious rooms, friendly staff and view.

This motel is an older property and could use some cleanup, spruce-up, and small item fix-up. Dated furnishings, loud air conditioner, pool not filled, shower curtain rod not properly installed- that kind of small, irritating thing. However, the staff was extremely friendly and responsive and courteous and that goes a long way with me. Also one of the least expensive in the area, very good for value travelers. Hearty breakfast served every day. the beds were comfortable and the room, linens, and bathrooms seemed clean. Traveled to Lexington - home of VMI & Washington & Lee- every day of my stay for commencement at W&L, about a 10-15 minute drive. There are closer places but all were more expensive. Overall, I would stay again for the low price and clean conditions but would prefer to be closer to town. « less
