The Benson is a lovely, elegant, and historic hotel that perfect for very formal events, luncheons, and private dinners. They have a prime location, right in the heart of Downtown bordering the trendy Pearl District. The lobby has impressively high ceilings and beautiful columns, and could be looked down upon by a balcony on the second floor. The hotel’s only active restaurant is right to the left of the main entrance, and seems more of a fancy café than a real restaurant, with no real separation between the café and the lobby. The hotel used to have a second restaurant which was more of a proper, separated space, but it has closed down and is now a very cool, sultry meeting space used only for private dinners (one of the prime private dinner venues the Benson offers). The main ballroom was my favorite part of the property. It is large but feels intimate due to their very high ceilings and massive hanging crystal chandeliers. The walls were pretty and large windows made up the whole back wall. There was also a small balcony attached to the front wall that overlooked the whole room, which the sales team said was a very popular place for toasts and for brides to throw their bouquets. One warning - This hotel is not a good option for children-heavy groups.

It was lovely. I had a couple complaints from some of the attendees about their rooms. Two said their rooms were very noisy. One said the wallpaper was peeling on the wall in their room. And actually, the grout in the bathroom tub/shower in my room was very moldy. Other than those things everything was wonderful. My room was beautiful and 98% of it was very clean and fresh. Our meeting was wonderful and everyone that worked at the hotel was friendly and gracious. Everyone was quick to help and did it cheerfully - from the people that cleaned our rooms or served our food to the Sales Manager. I couldn't have asked for better service. Very personal. You have a wonderful group working at the Benson! They all deserve raises!

Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2013, the historic Benson Hotel features 287 guestrooms/suites with Tempur-pedic Sleep System beds, Palm Court restaurant/bar and El Gaucho steakhouse (both offering an impressive selection of Northwest wines), 24-hour room service, Les Clefs d’Or USA Concierge, fitness room, business center and event space for up to 400 people. There are a variety of meeting and banquet rooms, ranging from 320 square feet to 5,850 square feet.
