We booked this hotel for one night to attend an event at the Staples Center and we were very happy with our choice. It was within an easy 15 minutes walk of Staples. There was convenient parking and we found the $12 per day rate to be reasonable for downtown parking. The room was not large by US hotel standards, but it was comfortable and a reasonable value for a downtown LA hotel. The king size bed was very comfy with nice quality bed linens. Wifi was free and worked well. The room had many amenities including a refrigerator, safe, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and there was a desk area. Regarding amenities, it was strange that there was just one robe and one coffee cup mug, I would have expected 2 of each item. I'm sure the hotel would have provided extras, we didn't ask. Decor was nice, a bit dark, with a masculine feel. The bathroom was small, but functional. A nice touch was the plate of fruit with a bit of cheese that was left in our room in late afternoon. Breakfast was included and we liked the freshly made omelets. Only negative on the breakfast, as noted in previous reviews, was the bad coffee. Fortunately, we travel with a coffee press and our own coffee, so thanks to the ability to make hot water in the room, we had good coffee. We did not make use of the athletic club during the visit, but hope to use it during a future stay. « less

We booked this hotel (note it's primarily a fitness club) for a weekday Nokia event and chose it for what appeared to be a good value for the price. Hotels in the area are expensive, but the reviews were glowing and it was rated 4* so we gave it a try. The place is old. The rooms have been updated but the bathroom, there's nothing you can do with something that small. No counter space for even a toothbrush. They could have made up for the age/size with service, but no. We pulled up to the entrance, right on the street, but there's no one to greet and take bags. We found self parking. Again, no one there. At check in we asked the clerk for extra pillows and info on how to get to the Nokia. She was supposed to check on a town car for us and/or get us a cab. Over an hour later, no pillows, no transportation info, when asked, "oh, I called about a car but no one answered." We ended up walking (it wasn't far but the area at night doesn't seem safe). The included breakfast was no better than an Embassy Suites hot breakfast. On the plus side, it was quiet despite the city area and the furnishings were okay. We checked out a day early. I should realize you get what you pay for. « less

The rooms are fabulously well decorated, with a very "clubby" feel to them. I got a corner room and it felt very special and even though it was hot in LA, the room temp was cool and comfy. Suffice to say, the workout facilities were top notch, and I took full advantage!
The only reason this is 4 instead of 5 stars is the comp breakfast: I am a healthy eater and the options weren't super nutritious (plus the coffee tasted like Folger's from the 60's).
A warning to tourists: The location is downtown so a bit rough if you walk the wrong way, super trendy if you go the correct direction so please be aware and stash that gold before going down the street. « less

We wanted to be close to the Nokia Center, and it definitely is! Cool hotel Nice vibe and great health club amenities since it actually is an athletic club. Rooftop access is cool. It is not too close to the touristy stuff like Hollywood and Sunset Blvds, so we ended up paying $30 cab rides to those places. The area of the hotel has some restaurants and Walgreens, and everything you need. Be advised there is no room service on the weekends though. Bed was super amazingly comfy, and when we first walked in, the room seemed small, but by the time we left it didn't at all. They could use a bathroom renovation and a full length mirror. I would stay again for sure! « less

Positive place: different from big LA hotels, abundant complimentary breakfast with good omlette (though bad coffee), quite large rooms (with dark brown color), entire building-size roof-top to view LA (and possibility to take sunbath if weather ok), good size pool to swim, nice small steam-bath, many opetion for workout (from yoga to basket as well as the normal stuff). In the early mornings you meet really old time LA people in the gym. Evenings, as everywhere, outside many poor pople but they do not make hassle. Staples about 15 minutes walk away. « less
