We were looking for a well positioned, clean, secure and comfortable hotel. This one ticked all the boxes. For around $100 a night my husband and I stayed in a room, which while small was cosy with a comfortable bed, good quality linen, a big flat screen tv and a functional bathroom with a bathtub. The safe in the wardrobe was a added bonus. The wifi was fast. We would have liked a fridge, but could get ice from the ice machine downstairs. We could easily walk into the downtown area but were also two stops on the tram. We ate in Little Italy or nearby. Our favourite place was a Ramen house called Underbelly. The hotel allowed us to have the break we wanted, but we didn't spend a huge amount of time in the room. Overall no issues. The service was great. For $5 each we could get the shuttle back to the airport. There was a lovely farmers market two streets away on Saturday (presume in warmer months only). « less

I had booked this hotel with hotels tonight and got it at a great rate!!! I was a little taken back when valet parking was 22$ but it did insure my car was safe and I love the concept of valet. The room was nice with a small bathroom but perfect for a night. I got lucky and had a room with a little flat screen and mini fridge. Not my first pick but I wouldn't mind staying here again granted I get the awesome deal I received. « less

We had a really nice time. More than we would have liked to pay but we booked at the VERY last minute. Every single person working at the Porto Vista hotel was super nice, from the valet ($22/night to park, just so you know) to the front desk to the restaurant. That actually makes up for a lot in my book. I heard some rooms are nicer than others. Ours was ok, but, again, friendly helpful service was great. Also we could walk to dinner and to shows, go running along the harbor, the location was great. Parking was extra but I think that's to be expected in a popular area. Also super close to airport. Next time we'd probably just take a cab from airport instead of renting a car. Overall it worked out really well for us. « less

Yes, it does have a motel feel inside the room and there are cosmetic details that could be addressed but this little gem has a lot going for it. Free wi-fi is a biggie, and so is the complimentary hot breakfast, but the location and staff are what makes this place so good. Come for the view at the Glass Door and the small rooftop patio, especially at sunset. And you have Little Italy and the harbor waterfront at your feet. Don't forget the Saturday Farmer's Market too. I live in San Diego and have a pretty good feel for what a decent room will cost, so if you're getting a good rate here then don't hesitate: go for it! « less

First of all, I hate motels, and I found it very difficult to sleep at this location because of that. Every time someone walks down the hallway you can hear the "thunk thunk thunk" in your room... As well, if a trolley goes down the hallway (luggage) it will literally shake the floor.
The good part of this experience was the front desk staff were great. When my cab didn't come in literally a minute he called for another, and ended up having 3 cabs there waiting for me. The front desk agent himself came outside and made the cab pull into an underground spot so that I didn't get soaked in the downpour.
The glass door restaurant (which my airline told me about) was closed at this time which kinda sucked... But for the 4 hours I spent at this hotel, it was a good spot, although I would caution anyone who thinks its a real HOTEL, it's that from the outside, it's a MOTEL on the inside. « less
