This was our way of staying near enough to a train journey into NYC and it was indeed perfect for that. Tip: The weekly rail passess only seem to run from Sat. - Sat regardless of when you arrive and if you are 62 and over take some ID for some serious discount on the trains. Staff at the hotel were lovely. Food expensive, but there you go, that's holidays for you. Plenty of places for breakfast Mon-Sat but Sunday you will be on your own or in the Hotel breakfast room at 22$! « less

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while visiting New York City. The hotel itself is a basic Hilton. No frills by Hilton standards but it is certainly a very good hotel. Rooms were very clean and so were the bathrooms. I'm using the plural because I had to change room after the first night because, my room faced the street and, despite being on the 7th floor it was quite noisy. Ear plugs were provided in every room but didn't help. After addressing the issue to the front desk I was promptly given another room and I had no problem. The front desk personel was for the most part very friendly and professional. The rooms size was good. The bathrooms were on the small side but the counter was big and there was plenty of room to store all our toiletry bags. Plenty of soft towels available. The WiFi internet is only free for certain tiers Hilton Honors members otherwise there is a charge. There is a Business Center in the lobby if you need to connect to the internet. The room has a coffe/tea maker, a spacious desk and a big flatscreen tv. In the galleries around the hotel and the train station there are several stores, restaurants and fast foods. We ate at the cafe inside the hotel. Despite being late the food was freshly cooked and pretty good for a caffe. The service was excellent. The area around the hotel is not the greatest but we always felt safe even at 10.00 pm when we got off a train at the station. Despite being in Newark, this hotel makes a great base to visit Manhattan. The hotel is conveniently connected to the Newark Penn Station by a enclosed bridge. From Newark Penn Station there are frequent trains to NYC Penn Station in Mid Town Manhattan via NJT or to the WTC Path Station in Lower Manhattan via PATH. Trains are at least 1 every 30 minutes and it takes approx 20 minutes to reach downtown NYC. Tickets to NYC Penn station are 5 dollars OW for adults and reduced for children. Children ride free on weekends. Path tickets are 2.75 per ride for adults. In the machine there is not an option to buy children tickets which we were told are reduced. Unfortunately there are no ticket booths, just machines. Path tickets machines are a bit tricky. There is not an option for buying multiple tickets and every ride needs to be purchased individually. We are a familly of 4 and we had to swipe our cards 4 times but the system is set to reject a card after two consecutives swipes. If you have to use credit cards make sure to have several or use cash. Please notice that the machines wont give you a change of more than 8 dollars so, have small bills handy. Personally I'd recommend to use the NJT trains which are little more expensive but a lot less hassle. I'd definitely recommend this hotel. « less

I stayed at Hilton Newark penn station from from April 17 till April 20 2013, it was a pleasant stay, service was good, rooms was clean, new and fresh towels everyday (when needed), beds were good, rooms was equipted with coffee and tea maker, large flat screen tv, any problems you had was dealt with instantly, staff at the hotel was profesional, could answer most questions, the path from the station/Hotel made me feel safe in the area, lots of shops cose by at the station, and right at the hotel is a small shopping center/food court...
Down things:
Was that the internet was not free, NO pay per view or extra channels, only basic channel was avaliable...

I was in Newark for a Wedding, and the Hotel is quite good, but the town is really awful. I know you can take the PATH to NYC, but on a weekend, that is going to take the best part of an hour. My advice, spend a little more and find a hotel somewhere that is much much closer to NYC unless you really need to be at Newark for something « less

I used this hotel for a business meeting. The location was great. Complimentry shuttle to and from Newark airport and for those meeting attendees who used the train, they really liked the convenience of getting off the train and having the hotel right there. The overnight rooms were clean and comfortable. The banquet service staff were extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. The food for the meeting was very good, but I would skip eating in the hotel restaurant. Food very average for the price. There are several good restaurant choices within walking distance. « less
