The Williamsburg center is about the area of Kimball Theater and the area of Williamsburg Fine Art Gallery.

The small Virginia town of Williamsburg only has about 15,000 residents. Its United States history starts in 1632, and it was Virginia Colony's capital between 1699 and 1780. Today, Williamsburg's main tourist draw is Colonial Williamsburg, the city's living history museum. It recreates 18th century history through faithful building restorations and costumed employees who behave as though they're from another time. More from this guide...

When to Visit Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg is beautiful in every season, and no matter when you visit you'll experience many fun historical activities. That being said, Williamsburg's peak season is summer when kids are out of school. If you do need to visit in summer, aim for June when the weather isn't as scorching. Fall is gorgeous in Virginia, and if you visit in October you'll catch some lovely fall foliage. Crowds won't be at summertime levels, but other foliage hunters may cause a bump in tourism. The common spaces are filled with gorgeous decor that adds a historical flare to the interior decor. Guest rooms feature four poster beds and are decorated more like the guest room at an affluent family member's house than like a typical hotel room. The property has a lovely garden for you to sit in as you drink your morning coffee. They offer access to a fitness center, a sauna, and, of course, breakfast.

The Williamsburg Manor B and B has five individually decorated guest rooms, and like the Sampler is located centrally in Williamsburg. Common spaces are filled with windows and comfortable furniture, and each room has cable television. Pets are allowed on this property, and the friendly staff will help you book tours or buy tickets for local sights and events. Previous guests have loved the property's gardens, and have raved about the delicious breakfast.

Williamsburg, VA summarized

Colonial Williamsburg is an essential stop for anyone fascinated by American History. The city provides 21st century tourists numerous intricate details on what the capital of Virginia may have looked like in the 18th century. Although tourists may have to purchase a ticket to see most of the restored buildings, Williamsburg's historic area is always open. Guests can stroll around freely across the green commons and down the cobblestone pavements. The Duke of Gloucester Street has some of the best places for sightseeing, as it is complete with a mock historic shopping center, William and Mary Campus, and a Wren Building. The historic district is filled with buildings from the 18th century. The Episcopalian Bruton Parish Church is the first among the series of well-preserved architecture, which has served as a tourist spot long before it gained historic stature. The real treat is the Capitol, an architectural highlight that serves as Virginia's monumental edifice. The gift shops surrounding it have been restored as silversmiths, cobblers, and apothecaries. But if you want authentic thrills brewed by generations, head to Chowning's Tavern, an alehouse that serves live entertainment each night.
