The guestroom lacked appeal, basic amenities like hand towels, tub was dirty and linen had questionble hairs. The breakfast is an excuse for a continental breakfast. Despite everyone's negative reviews, my husband and I found Ocean Surf to be an adequate hotel. We found the front desk people to be very helpful and friendly no matter who was at the desk. Yes, a few of them spoke limited English, but they were still polite and pleasant. When it came to our room, it was an average hotel room with two double beds. Nothing fancy, but we did not pay for anything fancy. The room was clean and re-cleaned daily by a very friendly and polite housekeeper. Yes, the carpet has some stains, but so does mine at home. Stains happen, that's just a fact of life. The bathroom was clean and usable. Yes, there were some stains on the walls, from previous water problems, but other than that, the bathroom was very clean. As for the continental breakfast, it is very basic, so don't plan on anything fancy. Breakfast consisted of Orange Juice, Milk, Coffee, Tea, Hot Cocoa, choice of two cold breakfast cereals, muffins, breads, and rolls. Good enough for us as we are not big breakfast eaters. The only negative thing about breakfast is that there aren't enough table and chairs to sit on on the porch, however, they don't mind if you eat inside the foyer or on the front steps. Overall, I can say we had a pleasant experience. We had a nice place to sleep, that was clean and did not have any bugs, a huge plus. The location is excellent. Right across the street from a guarded public beach. Lovely neighborhood surrounds the hotel giving one lots of choices for a variety of dining options all at reasonable prices (2 for $20/25 per meal). We were able to enjoy Cuban, Argentinian, Venezuelan, Chinese, and Italian. All great food with great service. CVS and Walgreens are right around the corner for your sunscreen and beach supplies. Local souvenir shops also within walking distance. The elevator was not working, however we were on the first floor, which required us to walk up only six steps. I would recommend this hotel to others and I would return if the opportunity arose again for us to visit to Miami North Beach. If you are looking for a hotel where you will be pampered, this place is not for you. If you are looking for a inexpensive clean getaway hotel, this is definitely the place you are looking for. « less

Had reservations. They already were paid, but wanted a $50 deposit from each person to even get the key. Key didn't work. Maid let us in (psycho maid btw). We advised that the room was dirty, she became angry and aggressive. When I say dirty I mean there was sand, food, ashes on surfaces. We noted cigarette burns on everything from the lampshade to the toilet. The carpet was torn (massively torn). Faceplate was missing from electrical outlet, the list goes on. We told her we'd go request another room, she follow us-screaming (not lying people) up to the front desk and stated that we'd been there for hours (?!) and are not entitled to any refund (but wait-she'd let us in 15 minutes prior and spent the past 15 minutes arguing with us). It was just unbelievably bad -- filthy, inept service, not secure (our door didn't close all the way either), unsafe (electrical and other infrastructure hazards). We got our deposit cash back but were never refunded our payment for 3 days there. We went next door to the Days Inn whose staff advised that they get (every day) customers from Ocean Surf who couldn't stay there because its so nasty.These owners should be ashamed of the place!! So I'm telling you guys from my experience, you don't want to do it. « less

We could not stay even one night and since I booked by Orbitz in advance, they don't want to give MY money back. This hotel should be shut down. It gives a bad view of Miami, and of the State of Florida. How can they stay in business - by cheating tourists. Disgraceful! I will update the review if I ever get my money back - even though WE DID NOT STAY THERE! Go to Days Inn next door. It's not fantastic but it's clean and management is reasonable. Don't get cheated out of a good vacation. « less

If your plans are to be out I'd suggest it for those trying to keep money in their wallet, but if your in Miami for spa experience, room service & five star treatment this is absolutely not for you. « less
