We loved this old school hotel. An attentive staff made the visit top notch and the outstanding restaurant and lovely pool won out for us over the younger, hipper hotels sprouting up in this laid back city.
Located on a hilltop near many of the embassies this hotel really is a throw back to a slightly different time. A beautiful swimming pool and garden were a perfect place to relax and cool off in the late afternoon, and a true oasis in the middle of the city. Piano player in the bar was well versed in Sinatra classics and the restaurant's terrace was a romantic spot for dinner -- the food was outstanding and the staff's wine knowledge was admirable especially considering the very good list.
The room was nicely appointed and charming with it's large wooden wardrobes. We were up on the top floor of the hotel and the large window let in a good evening breeze but the air conditioning was challenged to keep up with the heat of summer days.
If you are looking for a grand hotel with all the amenities one would expect from a five star property. An intrepid walker can combine treks with public transportation to get around, or a cab to almost anywhere is not very expensive. Staff made excellent dinner recommendations and could secure tables almost anywhere.
This isn't a lively spot, but is quiet, romantic and has an elegant nostalgia that seemed to suit Lisbon perfectly. « less

Housekeeping did a great job, twice daily visits and lovely loccitane products.
Beds were a little hard, but probably good for your back!
Balcony, river view, concierge, everything about it was just superb.
We are already booking our second trip in August! « less

I say almost because nothing should be without some need of improvement. In fact I can't think of anything I would change about this hotel. Great service, beautiful surroundings, comfortable and clean rooms and our river view was spectacular. We enjoyed Lisbon although only for a short stay after arriving from Porto and a river cruise on the Douro. We called ahead for the concierge to book us two dinners and each was excellent. The concierge also arranged a driver for us and the six or seven hours spent touring the city and other sites was very enjoyable. Great gym and a wonderful bar that served light meals. The pool area is gorgeous with fish ponds and waterfallys so a perfect place for families traveling with their children. Everyone was helpful and more than courteous. It is not a hotel for budget minded travelers but you get what you pay for here! « less
