“The perfect little Parisian room!”

I booked a room for one person for two nights at the Hotel Claude Bernard and found it completely and utterly charming. The people at the front desk were nice, and the room was spotlessly clean. Even more than that, it was just what I imagine a little storybook Paris room to be- if you imagine a romantic, picturesque little Victorian apartment for one in Paris, this is it. I was in room 45, which was very small, but just right for one person. It had the classic big French window with a wrought iron Juliet balcony, super high ceilings with elaborate decorative moldings, pale yellow walls, a double bed with snowy white covers, hardwood floors, and a lovely view over the Rue des Ecoles. The room was bright and airy, and so pretty. It was not spacious or luxurious or modern, but I loved it from the moment I walked in. If Audrey Hepburn had been a college student spending a semester in Paris, I'm pretty sure her apartment would have been exactly like room #45 at the Hotel Claude Bernard. « less

I am a travel agent from London and a colleague actually recommended this hotel as it was in the area of Paris that I had not visited. The photos on the website looked good and the reviews were also good. When you entered the hotel, the reception is pretty smart. The receptionist was on the phone so I handed over the hotel voucher and he just passed the key and announced that our room was on the 3rd floor.
I cant tell you how dissapointed I was when I opened the door. The room was dark and very small with a view looking out to a brick wall. The bed was against the wall and the furniture was old with plug sockets hanging out. You could just about fit in the bathroom which was also tiny. So i went down stairs to ask if they had any better rooms but apparently they were full so we were stuck with that. We only wanted a base but I did not want to spend any time in the room at all.
The walls in the hotel are really thin so you could hear everything else going on in the other rooms. We were not only woken up by the noise in the next room but also by the cleaner on sunday morning around 9 who was banging the hoover on our door.
After that we decided to try the breakfast. This consisted off a croissant or a bit of baguette and that was it. You were lucky to get a plate.
When we checked out the receptionist did not say a word, we just handed the key over.
Management response from Paul Benichou, Directeur général
Dear Madame When you have processed reservation, you requested me personnally by email to have a room very quiet, and if possible back the building. I have answered and informed you that rooms on backyard are not so spacious and not so clear. And you were advised to select a room facing street, more spacious, with view and quiet too (because soundproofed). I agree we have on the building these few rooms on backyard. And for some people, it could be tiny and dark. But you were informed, so I don't understand why your complaint. Anyway you have possibility to ask the front desk to move to another room. I regret you did not make that and as many clients to be fully satisfied. Best regards Paul Benichou Manager

My family (husband, 3 yr old son, mum & mother-in-law) and I really enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. Excellent location, close to Notre Dame, metro, and great restaurants and cafes. It was clean and all the beds were comfortable even the extra bed we requested. The best bit for us was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff - this made our stay. Thank you. We would definitely return to Hotel Claude Bernard Saint-Germain when we next visit Paris. « less

The hotel itself was OK. Good location and reasonable breakfast. The WiFi was hit and miss although the manager claimed it had been upgraded/fixed a few days prior to our arrival on this website. The rooms are not exactly as shown (ours wasn't anyway) and much smaller than suggested.
However the staff, were at best unhelpful and at worst rude. The manager took great pleasure in our misfortune documented below (in a UK national newspaper) and we ended up several hundred euros out of pocket.
I'm sure M. Benichou will respond with personal slurs (wickedness and dishonesty are words used to describe previous customers unhappy with the service provided). My advice to him would be to work at improving the standard of his hotel rather than insulting people on Trip Advisor. « less

my husband and I, stayed at this hotel in december. it was our second stay here. two things to bring us back - perfect lacation and wonderful staff. the location is just right. all places of interest are in walkable distance. and metro is very close by. many restaurants/cafes in the area, and wonderful boulangeries every where you look! i have said this before in my earlier review as well, that here, you feel as if you are LIVING in paris, somehow. and that is the experience we seek wherever we travel. so we just love being here. secondly, the staff is exceptionally nice. always helpful and kind... and many a times go out of their way to accomodate a request. low-key and politely out of the way, yet there for you with all pleasantness should you require help. they are just extra ordinary.. especially Paul and Mohemmed.. we will always remember our time with you with great fondness! the quirky elements like tiny elevator are things we remember and laugh about. not something to get bothered with. and you should see the luggage we travel with, and yet no complains!! the breakfast is basic. enjoyed sitting in the breakfast room with coffee/croissants and planning our day. would definately go back to it. and would recommend it, without hesitation. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"Everything went excellent. I'm really glad I decided to go with both your company and Sierra Suites for accommodations for my wedding. People are now wishing there were more Sierra Suites around. They were even kind enough to offer the discounted rate to those people that weren't sure they'd make to the wedding until after the cutoff date. I have already referred someone to your service for a wedding she's planning in Michigan." R.S. - Parsippany, NY
"Your online bidding system saved me hours and hours of phone calls trying to find a hotel for my family event in the Twin Cities the weekend the Republican National Convention begins. I had been calling places to no avail and did not relish the thought of calling the entire phone directory's worth of hotels. So this was great! Thank you." N.D. - Minneapolis, MN
