The hotel is spotless and in a great location, one minute walk from Cologne Cathedral and main train station and two minute walk into the main shopping area. Five minute walk into the main squares and river.
Its a very grand hotel, 150 years old. Our room was palacial and the free mini-bar was an added bonus with four beers, two cokes, orange and apple juice and waters.
The beds were comfortable and they offer a turn-down service.
There is no air-con in the room and it can get quite warm, plus we were located on a side street which was extremely noisy from around 4.30am.
There was a slight sewer smell coming from the shower and when we had a shower it flooded the bathroom quite bad so i think there is a drainage problem here, however the maid who came in the evening to turn down realised and replaced all our sodden towels.
Another bug-bearer was the maid walking in at 07.30 in the morning!! this is too early so make sure you put your do not disturb sign on the door, if you dont want to get up too early.
We were a bit miffed with the few minor things noted above, but the hotel redeemed itself with a 13.00 generous checkout, and then as the hotel wasnt busy, they let us keep on our room until 17.00 hours.
I would recommend the hotel for grandour and location but just remember its an old hotel without mod-cons....the doors are a bit hard to open too. « less

You can't fault the hotel. It's just a minute away from the HBF (central train station) and the famous Cologne Cathedral. We were greeted by the friendly doorman and professional staff at the reception desk. Check-in was smooth and our suitcases were carried to our room while the staff showed us to our room (introducing the spa on the way). Our room was on the top floor, accessible via another lift from the floor below or via the spiral staircase. The room was clean and comfortable, free minibar with a good variety of drinks (fruit juices, sparkling water, still water, frizzy drinks) was included in our tariff. There are maps and tourist info available at reception desk. The staff are very helpful and have good knowledge of Cologne and nearby cities such as Bruhl (for You can't fault the hotel.
