The hotel was comparable to the cheap rate I paid. However the carpet in the hall was dirty. The mattress flipped up when I sat on the edge of the bed to put on my shoes. The rooms and hallway smelled like smoke. The staff was nice for the time they were there. The elevator sound as if it will break down at any second. I would only go back if I had no other choices in the area and was on a very very tight budget. « less

I have been a long term guest at the extended stay in hillside for over six years. I have never had a problem at this hotel which is why I chose to stay here instead of getting a apartment. Even though the prices have increased from when I first arrived here it is worth every penny. when ever I have a problem or need assitance I just let any of the staff know and they immeditaley communicate and have it taken care of that day or right away. The hotel has done a lot better with all the changes that they have conducted like new tvs which is great considering i had a really small tv before and now have a flat screen. new comforters and soft pillows which helps me sleep at night now. as a retired individual i would prefer to stay here as long as permitted becuase the staff makes me feel at home when they greet me by my name. i also get to meet a lot of new people since the hotel accomadates all types of people for night a month and so on. my most favorite now is the breakfast cart now becuase it saves me trips to the store considering i dont have a car which brings me to the great location this hotel is at. Its near a shopping center grocery store which i can walk to and when i do get a car it also has high way access to get down town right away. the area is really quite and peaceful i really do feel like this is my home i encourage everyone who needs a place in the area to stay here you would not regret it. « less

Extremely impressed w the customer service I received here, as well as the fact that there's a little kitcheonette in every room. For the price I paid, I expected four walls, a bed and maybe a tv. The bathroom and kitchen were definitely outdated, but clean; the room itself felt very clean and cozy. Very impressed with how much this staff seems to care. « less

Only stay at this hotel if you aren't fuzzy about your accommodations. The whole place smells like cigarette smoke with cherry air freshener, even the 2nf floor, which is all non-smoking. The halls and room carpeting are in need of some serious vacuuming and deep cleaning or just replaced. Our first room smelled like smoke and sewage and the shower didn't work. Also, there were crumbs on the floor and some of the tables from the last gusts, which wasn't cleaned. The guy at the front desk gave us a second room, but the door to that one stuck halfway, so you could barely get in or out (fire hazard). It smelled even worse, plus faced the highway so you couldn't even open the windows to let in some air because of the road noise. So, we took showers there and then headed back to our first room and kept the window open to let in fresh air. We wouldn't have been able to sleep there without the window opened. Since it was only for one night and we were running late for a concert downtown, we sucked it up. Otherwise, we would have asked for a refund and went to another hotel.
The comment other reviewers have made about a lot of guests being full-time residents seemed to be true and some looked a bit iffy, which might bother some people. I was with my husband, so I felt OK, but I would not have felt safe staying there by myself.
The hotel staff was helpful and the location was excellent, hence the two stars. It's a shame, because with a little basic maintenance, cleaning, and some new carpeting, this place would be OK. « less

We have stayed in Extended Stay American before and like the convenience of a kitchen. Each time we have booked for 4 people we have had to go and ask for enough towels and cutlery/crockery. At Hillside we asked for a non smoking room and were allocated one in the ground floor. The corridor smelt strongly of smoke, as did our room initially. We were there for several days and left the window open when we could to air it out. Despite advertising business services they were unable to print something for us.
The hotel is not on a train line so its a 15mile drive to the city. Parking is free.
Front desk staff were very helpful and polite. « less
