We had earned points with Best Western so we stayed here for FREE. We stayed here on our trip down to Santa Fe/Taos because we wanted to tour the Ludlow Massacre Monument and this was only about 25 miles north of it. We had the big handicap accessible room and it was very nice. The FREE breakfast was great and a woman makes breakfast burritos to order. They were great and very filling. Part of the hotel is new as of 2008 and the rest of the motel is probably 1950's. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our one-night stay. « less

The room and hotel in general was the cleanest I've stayed in. The pool and hot tub area was relaxing. The staff was extremely nice and the breakfast was great....

The room and hotel in general was the cleanest I've stayed in. The pool and hot tub area was relaxing. The staff was extremely nice and the breakfast was great. The only downside to the room was there was no A/C due to it being march. There were fans available at your request and the windows did open for fresh air. « less

Thank you so much for your review. We really enjoyed having you stay with us. Sorry about the A/C, with snow one day and 70 degrees the next it is hard to judge when to take the covers off. Got to love Colorado in the spring. We are however looking into a combined unit so that we would not have to cap the A/C in the winters. Hope to see you again.

My wife and I have stayed at this property a couple of times a year for the past decade or so. In the beginning, it was a very small, marginal property with a questionable history and future. Then something changed. Different ownership, I would guess (but I don't actually know). And little by little the property improved over time. Now, it is one of our favored stops. Good quality rooms, a very nice cooked breakfast, reasonable rates and a friendly staff make it a preferred stop--midway between our home in Wyoming and our destinations in New Mexico and Texas for Cowboy Poetry Gatherings. Right on the interstate-- no fooling around looking for a parking spot. And, I must add, Walsenburg is an interesting old west type of town and worth a bit of exploring! « less

Rude! Inconsiderate! Greedy business practices. While I waited for a room, I listened to employees asking other guests questions, & I felt like they were looking for the more desparate, larger groups, in order to rent the rooms for more money. We were basically chased out, into a blizzard, & were very lucky to find IMMEDIATE sanctuary at a nearby inn, that actually offered hospitality. « less

I do apologize that you feel that way. We don't go looking for the larger groups or people who would pay more money. This was a crazy night with unexpected reservations and a lobby full of people who need/wanted rooms. We were receiving online reservations as fast as we were processing reservations on the phone and at the counter. We are not large enough to accommodate everyone who stops, and our staff would never chase out anyone into a blizzard. We had a list of alternate hotels in town that were not full yet and shared that information with anyone who needed it. I feel that you have unfairly rated us, since you did not stay with us. I am however glad that you found a safe place to stay for the night, as stated it was a horrible night to be out.

Will not stay here again. Rate paid was as high as much higher grade motels. This may be because there are no other suitable motels within 40 miles in any direction. Monopoly pricing. Discount rates, if chosen will put you in the "old" part of the motel. Breakfast was acceptable as fresh cooked breakfast burritos were a choice.
