Years have passed since we returned to the Upham. How comforting it was to see this little hotel has kept all its quaintness and charm. All the staff have been congenial and helpful ~ Steve in check in, Deb was so warm and accommodating on the phone and after we arrived making great recommendations for local restaurants within walking distance and Patty who sets up the complimentary continental breakfast. The Upham Hotel and Garden Cottages is the oldest continuously operating hostelry in Southern California, situated on an acre of gardens in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. Close enough, but not too close, to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara possesses a beautiful natural setting by the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific. It is a red-tile, white-adobe, flower-decked town evoking romanticized Spanish California. Just two blocks off State Street, within easy walking distance of several restaurants, shops, theatres and tasting rooms.

SBA (Santa Barbara) Airport is less than 9 miles away, a 15-20 minute ride by car. Yellow cab offers Upham guests a preferred rate of $28.00 when called from the airport upon arrival. Hotel can make return arrangements to the airport.
