Southeastern University is a private, undergraduate and graduate institution of Christian higher education located in Lakeland, Florida in the USA. It was established in 1935 as a Bible college, and became a liberal arts college in 1970. The university was formerly known as South-Eastern Bible Institute (1935-1956), South-Eastern Bible College (1956-1977), and Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God (1977-2005). It is still affiliated with the Assemblies of God, a Protestant, Pentecostal denomination.
In the 2009-10 academic year, enrollment totaled approximately 3,000 students; they represented 48 states and 40 foreign countries. Nearly 25 percent of the students are ethnic minorities. Students come from a variety of denominations, though approximately 32% are from an Assemblies of God background. The top states represented are Florida, Ohio, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Kentucky, Texas, California, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Massachusetts.
Southeastern offers 45 programs leading to bachelor's degrees; eight to master's degrees, including an MBA. All students are required to complete 54 hours of general education course work in addition to their major. The school is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
