As we were in Montreal to visit family, our options for hotels were limited: Ruby Foo's was pretty much it. We asked for a crib for the room, and the one they brought us was a rickety old death trap. The screws were loose and the wall/slats were shaky; we literally had to ask the concierge (at 1 am when we arrived) to find a screwdriver to tighten the bolts on the crib, and then we prayed all night that our son wouldn't fall out (and promptly retrieved our pack n' play from the car the next day). Frankly, that crib is a liability, and I'm horrified that any hotel would allow a guest to use it.
I wish I could say that the crib was an anomaly, but basically that was like the rest of the hotel: just run down. Housekeeping was poor; the number of small hairs left in the tub and bathroom floor made me think that the previous guest was a sasquatch. The bell desk was ineffectual at best: there were never bellmen to be found, so we ended up getting the cart ourselves both at check in and check out. At check out, no one batted an eye as I (a small-statured woman) fought with a giant luggage cart as it careened off a ramp and into the driveway. The hotel staff at the front door just stared.
The pros of the hotel is that the check-in staff was nice, the location is great for the Hampstead area (and next to a La Belle Province for junk food lovers), and the Japanese-style screens they had on the windows made the rooms nice and dark for sleeping. If we could avoid staying there again, though, we will. « less

We needed a place to stay in an area of Montreal that we wouldn't normally go to, and we used Ruby Foos as our base. It turned out to be perfect. It's pretty, the room was lovely, it was close to our family, and it is right on the Metro subway line. So during the time when were wanted to be tourists, we were able to get right downtown without taking our car. We walked around that area and then down into Old Montreal, and when we were ready, we hopped the Metro and were back in what felt like minutes. It made for a very convenient and comfortable way to spend the day. (FYI, we each purchased a return Metro ticket for $5.50.) « less

Only stayed here 2 nights so I can't say that much. The location was great for being out of province. Close to the city yet good access to the highway out of town. My only complaint was the bar/lounge closed before 11pm on a Friday and the only place to get a drink was at the Strip Club around the corner. Even the gas station across the street wouldn't sell me a beer at 1 minute after 11pm. « less

Stayed at Ruby Foos over the weekend, the property could use some lipstick and makeup, but the staff make up for any short comings. The restaurant had closed so they put out a a little breakfast buffet, nothing special but really nice of them to try and take care of their guests while the restaurant is closed. Besides I got a great suggestion from the front desk for dinner, and there are several restaurants within walking distance. The room was clean, soft pillows and sheets. Ample space, not much of a view, but that's not why I booked, to look out the window. Next time I am in town, I will be staying at Ruby Foos. « less

As a frequent visitor to Montreal, I have typically found lodging at some of the world-class hotels to be found downtown (Centre Ville). The relatives I visit reside in nearby suburbs: Cote St. Luc and Hampstead. This year, they advised that I try Ruby Foos. What a delight. This was true first class lodging right where I wanted to be - saving me the 15 minute drive. I was extremely pleased with the accommodations, the service, the proximity to excellent dining options, and a nightly price roughly half of what I am used to paying. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"Just wanted you to know that your site is the greatest. If I hadn't stumbled onto your web site I would not have been able to make as good a deal (which may have resulted in our having to cancel this trip to arrange for something more local). Thank you and your group so much!!! I will keep this web site handy for future use and also tell everyone about it." A.L. - Hershey, PA
"I have been planning trips for twenty years and doing all the "footwork", phone calling, emailing, etc. myself. This is the most wonderful thing since sliced bread!!!!!! Thanks for all info. I think I know already which hotel we will choose but I will wait a day or two for other bids." M.R. - St. Augustine, FL
