“Strange layout leads to it being loud - front staff not the best - slightly overpriced”

Layout - many of the rooms face the atrium in the middle of the hotel - you have a sliding glass door to the atrium but you can't get there through the door. You feel like you are in a fishbowl. If there are any kids playing in the indoor pool you hear everthing through the door. The front desk staff could not direct us to a place that was open for breakfast (other than Starbucks). We paid over $150 per night in the middle of March - slightly overpriced for the location and date. The hotel was clean and conveniently located which is why I rated it average and not poor. « less

Stayed here for business thank god only one night. Hotel needs renovations and upgrading the rooms should first on the list. Bed was comfortable but bathroom was so small it wasn't even large enough for one person. Gym was decent and bar was ok. Would not stay there again though. Definitely not worth $279 for one night. « less

The Melville Mariott Long Island has a wonderful open feel to it's lobby area. The common areas are clean and there is a wifi signal available at no charge on the first level of the hotel. There is a nice bar that is 'kid friendly' and besides bar food you can order off the regular dinner menu, and the staff will bring it to the bar. Rooms are large, clean and well stocked with toiletries. The on site restaurant is okay, nothing special, but the food is adequate. Breakfast is buffet style and there is a lot to choose from. « less

The price is a little high, relatively speaking - but I was able to get a reasonable week-end rate, which made it possible to stay here. The doormen, front desk people and the guys behind the Atium bar were very freindly. The room was comfy, the bed was great. Bathroom was a little small but everything was clean, which is always my biggest concern. Internet access was fine, although they charge for it if you're not a member of their rewards program. I had a hambrger and a drink at nthe Atrium bar, it was very good. I was also able to take advantage of breakfast in the concierge lounge, was added value to my stay. The concierge lounge isn't open on Saturdays, so I had breakfast in the on site restaurant - which I had to hunt for, as it isn't well marked and not really marketed well around the hotel. The fitness room is very nice with 5 treadmills, a couple cycles, a weight machine and more. The indoor pool looked very nice as well. While this hotel is very nice, it's showing its age a little, and isn't the nicest Marriott I've ever stayed in. And as previously stated, the price is a little out of whack making it a marginal value. I had to ask 3 times for a corrected bill - once at check out, and twice by phone - before they finally sent it. That was annoying and hopefully not the norm. Overall you can expect a nice stay if you're willing to pay what they are asking. « less

We stayed at the Melville Marriott on Friday, April 26, 2013. Work was hosting an event and we decided to stay there instead of driving home after the party. When I arrived at the hotel around 5:45PM, it was pretty chaotic. The bar was busy, the lobby was busy - there were people everywhere.
The bell staff were attentive, welcomed me and immediately asked me if I needed help with my bags. One of the Sales Manager was at the reception, greeting guests and directing them through the busy lobby, which I thought was a nice touch.
However, the service received during check-in was very poor. The young woman had blond hair and a British or Australian accent. I couldn't quite tell. I don't remember her name, unfortunately. She was rude, gave me short answers and was overall unhelpful. She finally handed me my keys and immediately took them back, saying they were the wrong keys. Once I got my keys (the right set), my check-in experience was over. It was my first time at the Melville Marriott and I wasn't offered any explanation on services and amenities, breakfast, etc. It was actually the Sales Person whom first greeted me that directed me towards the elevators and asked me to let her know if I needed anything else.
The room was a standard Marriott room. I stayed in room 3037. I thought it looked tired and in need of a facelift. The carpet bubbled in some area as well as the wallpaper. The bathroom was small and the cleanliness of the tub raised some concerns. The tub had some yellow stains (again, not sure if it was from age or if it was dirty). I found a long black hair folded in one of the facecloth (I have short blond hair).
We were attending an event during the evening. Our bartender, Chella, was extra friendly and attentive. She remembered what everyone was drinking. Oscar, the Maitre D' was available and helpful. Very polite. I remembered him from a previous event at the Melville Marriott. I'm glad to see he's still there.
Overall, it's an average Marriott property. Some aspects were excellent, other mediocre. I would like to try it again to see if anything improves. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"This was the easiest way to find hotel packages that i have ever experienced!! We are very happy with this service though and will recommend it to others her at the university." P.M. - Orlando, FL
"I had already contacted Marriott prior to finding your site, but you got us a deal $24 cheaper per night than Marriott was willing to offer! Also, since the rooms are blocked for our wedding, the website with our own URL was perfect. This was the most convenient and easy to use service I have encountered since starting to plan the wedding. I had the whole room blocking process done in 48 hours, it saved a lot of time and money. Thanks!" C.T. - Richmond, BC
