Once in a while on our trips from Florida to visit family in Virginia, we like to get off the Interstate corridor and take the secondary highways at a more leisurely pace. That philosophy was what led us to this hotel last year. On our first visit, we discovered Emma's Restaurant, a nice little culinary jewel that sparkled in all respects. We were so impressed that we decided we would definitely return for a future visit.
Our second visit was disappointing, as we discovered the restaurant's opening days and hours have been severely curtailed, and the menu has been slashed, with many previous items removed. Worse, there are huge poster menus in the elevators proclaiming the wonderful selections at Emmas, however when you get the real menu, it's a big letdown because practically none of those items on the poster are available. Not sure what the philosophy is here, but the restaurant was what brought us back for a second visit. As we travel, we love to discover restaurants within the hotel, which means we don't have to get back in the car (after a full day's travel) and drive to dinner. But now, I'm not sure we're there's going to be a third visit.
As far as the hotel itself is concerned, nothing but high marks for service, location, cleanliness, and quiet. It is very convenient to shopping centers and a huge array of restaurants and such. It still is a nice Holiday Inn property, but the restaurant thing remains a mystery. As I normally eschew "hotel coffee," there is a nice Starbucks around the corner about 7/10th of a mile away. « less

Room location was fairly close to the elevator. That was the only positive point. The shower lacked the proper ADA specified fixtures and there was not even an attempt to provide alternatives. The rate charged was totally out of line for the product provided. If you are staying in Statesboro, and you need a handicap room DO NOT SELECT THIS PROPERTY. Personally I would not stay there again regardless of room type. There are too many alternative properties nearby. « less

I recently stayed at this Holiday Inn for 3 nights on business. For a very long time, I avoided Holiday Inns as they seemed rather tired and in need of renovation. However, I have had to stay in a couple of HI properties recently and have noticed that they have improved greatly. This one is no exception. The facilities were clean and comfortable. I had a nice-sized room in the corner and the bed was very comfortable. The desk staff I encountered were very friendly and did everything possible to accomodate whatever I needed. Our meetings were catered by Emma's, the hotel restaurant, and were very, very good. I think the only thing that I would change is that even with the shades and curtains drawn, the room was still too bright for sleeping (but I think that is true in many hotels). I enjoyed my stay there, and I would stay there again if my journeys ever took me back to the "Boro". « less

Got a great corporat rate as well. Will continue to stay here when I am visiting/working in the area. Location was great, across the street from all the major restaurants. « less
