Historic Cal Neva Resort Spa & Casino is located on the north shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, and straddles the state line between Nevada and California. Once owned by Frank Sinatra, the resort hosted many celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Peter Lawford, and the Kennedy family. Cal Neva offers lake views from all guest rooms, a full service spa, outdoor swimming pool (seasonal), fitness center, casino, and lake view dining.

Okay, if you regard your hotel as an all-consuming destination which should be perfect in every detail, you should choose another hotel. The place needs a coat of paint, and the room decor is a flashback to your gramma's house (or your mom's, depending on your age). We're talking federal-style furniture, striped fabric wallpaper, and those curvy swag-things on the curtains. Me, I can't always afford to take a trip whenever I want to, so I rate hotels on value for dollars. Using an email off-season promotion, I got a clean, huge room with a king bed on the 9th (top) floor with a view to die for and a $20 breakfast voucher for about the cost of a room at a Motel 6. The place felt weird the day I arrived, simply because there were so few guests, but a couple days later there were wedding and graduation parties. Everything in the room worked, everyone on the staff was very pleasant and helpful and acted as if they enjoyed their jobs. The place needs a benefactor to spruce it up. I understand the new owner plans to turn it into a 5-star hotel. That'll make me a bit sad, because then I won't be able to stay there and wake up to the view of all time. The secret tunnel tour is a must, well worth the ten bucks just to hear Hans the guide spin his conspiracy theories involving Sinatra, the mob, and the Kennedys. Bottom line, they showed me a good time and enabled me to do a Tahoe escape for a few days. « less

I recently stayed at The CalNeva for ski races at Sugarbowl and at Squaw. I brought 5 student athlete's with me and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff was welcoming and accommodating which makes this so easy to write. Roz the sales coordinator, Robert the security guard, Maurice at the front desk, they were all so easy to work with, they even gave us space to tune our skis!! From almost every room we were in we had some of the best views of the lake, just amazing. Definitely worth staying here for the views alone. Thanks to all the staff that made our trip a great one. « less

The place is a shambles. Old and unkept. We didn't actually stay here, thank God, but went in for the curiosity factor of being on the state line. There really isn't a casino to speak of (like someone pointed out there are more arcade games then slots). There didn't seem to be much staff around or guests for that matter.
The photos on the walls seemed to be a sad reminder of what used to be a really nice cool place but is now just old and forgotten. « less

Testimonials: Why use Hotel Planner?
"My middle school band and I have been extremely pleased with the service we received from your company. I had many choices for hotels very quickly and the hotels I considered were all excellent. Even after I selected our hotel, your agents stayed in contact with me periodically and even arranged a free upgrade of my room to a suite! What a nice surprise! I plan to book my next trip through them and would highly recommend them to my friends for their group travel plans. Thanks for a great experience." C.C. - Grove Hill, AL
"This is the first time I used your service and I was very satisfied with the software program. It was very user friendly and had so many different options you could use. There was a great selection of hotels to choose from. I have finalized my booking with Liz of Bay Park Hotel and have stopped all other biddings. Thank you again. It made my job a lot easier in finding a place to stay for the group!" J.W. - Monterey, CA
