We took our 3 children, aged 6-8 to the Great Wolf Lodge over Spring break this year. Words alone can't describe how shabby and dirty was this resort. Starting with our room- we rented one of the bigger rooms with an upstairs sleeping loft. The room was basically tidy but extremely run down and shabby...cracks and water damage stains in the ceilings, lights that didn't work...rusty water around the base of the toilet but the worse was when one of our children opened up the balcony and we noticed a HUGE accumulation of bird droppings which had, obviously been there for ages, over EVERYTHING! The space was unusable and when we looked up, we saw the pigeons that were roosting under an eave above our head...just plain filthy.
The water park was another story......it seemed fairly clean when we arrived mid day but n=by 4 PM, my husband said the men's room looked like feces had exploded all over the place, all over the floor, there was a mess on the wall and everything was getting sloshed about from the traffic. My husband would not take our young son in there and when he went back to use the facility a few hours later, found it was in the same condition. I also saw a pile of soiled toilet paper outside the women's locker room/changing area. I called over an attendant and that was cleaned up but given the high traffic of a holiday weekend, there should have been MUCH more staff on hand, stationed in the bathroom areas.
I am happy that other families have enjoyed themselves at this resort but our experience was so bad that our daughter asked if we could 'sleep in the car' rather than stay one more minute. We got up and left at 6:30 am the next day.

We don't normally go to places like this and was frankly surprised at how well the place was run and the quality of the service. Our daughter (10) had a blast. Most of the time was spent in the water park, and there are some other activities for variety.
Even at "spring break" attendance levels the crowd was bearable. And if you go swimming a little late in the evening many of the smaller kids have retired for the evening so there is more seating and shorter lines.
I was also pleased with the variety and quality of the food in the restaurant.
Yes, it is somewhat on the expensive side (you're paying for a higher-end hotel plus water park admission every day), and I can't see spending much time outside the lodge while you are paying these rates. You could go eat nearby and save a few dollars that way, but on the other hand if you're making the most of the hotel activities there is something to be said for paying a little extra to eat onsite. You can also save a little by buying bundles of activities. « less

The Resort is Very Expensive. The Water Park Is Nice But needs To Be Cleaned And Upgraded Badly. There Is A Lot Of Rust On The Water Slides. The Rooms Are Neatly Set up But They Need To Be Upgraded As The Furniture Is Old And Worn. A Few Of The Staff Were Friendly But Most Did Not Appear To Be Very Happy And Were Not Very Cordial. « less

I took my wife and two of my kids (ages 11 and 4) there for a birthday.
Pros: The customer service and entertainment factor for the kids were incredible. They have a ton of organized things to do, including dancing, balloon animals, story time, etc. The water park was great and our 4 year old could ride everything except the Tornado.
Cons: Bed was hard as a rock. Not a lot of insulation between floors, so we heard the people upstairs running around at 1:00 a.m. Everything there is expensive (We left the hotel for all meals. They wanted $20 for dinner for my 11 year old daughter, who can eat anywhere else for $5) The hotel is kind of beat up (older carpet, bad lighting, etc.)
Magic Quest was very magical for the kids, but a little too advanced for the 4 year old (she didn't understand the goals...she just wanted to point the wand at things).
It's a great experience, but not sure we'll be going back anytime soon. « less

I managed to snag a Groupon deal for this trip since it is hard to get a deal that i am willing to pay for,at this particular hotel. I took my family one other time when the rates were decent. The children LOVE this place..I think its great too..There are a lot of activities for the children..face painting, story hour, balloon animals, dancing...These are the perks that dont weigh on your wallet. Then there's the magic quest, the arcade, the spa, the icream shoppe...Need I go on? Parents beware...If you are going to go and are ok with blowing $200 on food and nonessential items that you can purchase from the Walmart not even 5 minutes away go ahead..Now...its convenient, but not necessary..I brought some chips and bottled water..We did eat in the restaurant, But that is where I drew the line..All other items were brought from home, or purchased outside of the resort. If you want to lose yourself in the hype go ahead..the waterpark is awesome..My sons enjoyed the wave pool and the slides, my daughter enjoyed the lazy river. My husband enjoyed the Tornado..Overall this is a great familiy getaway the staff is attentive and friendly, but i dont own stock in GreatWolf so I'll get my icream and pizza outside...Plus no one seemed to think their kidsneeded to sleep, so there was alot of jumping running around well through 1 am. Other than that..Great trip..Will go back « less
