The hotel was originally built as an exclusive hideaway for Hollywood’s finest. Built in 1946 by playboy homebuilder Larry Imig, the property then called Imig Manor, enjoyed unparallel success. From the arrival of our first guest, Mr. Bob Hope, on July 1, 1946, to-date our hotel has had the pleasure of serving numerous celebrities, group meetings, and organizations over the years.
Hollywood’s most glamorous stars came night after night to what was the hotel’s fashionable Mississippi Ballroom to drink, dine and dance to the music of Ted Fio Rito and other top-drawer big bands.
The hotel’s popularity and tradition of gracious hospitality continues today. This elegant Colonial-Style mansion is a San Diego landmark and has maintained its elegant charm while offering all the amenities that today’s discriminating traveler demands under a new name Lafayette Hotel & Suites.
The Mississippi Ballroom is now a popular Wedding and Special Event Venue. From the moment your guests enter the Mississippi Room with its clamshell band stage and beautiful oak dance floor, they will begin to experience the elegant charm, sophistication and gracious hospitality that this landmark has been known for since 1946. The room is an incredible 5200 square feet and can comfortably accommodate up to 300 guests with full seating and dance floor or as many as 400 guests for cocktail receptions.
