My review isn't based on a 5 star resort expectation. Rather, it is based on what could be hoped for by an average traveler. In that regard Hotel Artesia was excellent. Food was like home, it was clean, comfortable and had convenient, clean laundry capability and ice. Nice, caring, and capable staff capped it all off. It was the best we had on our 10 day road trip.

It was relatively cheap on very short notice, but still felt slightly overpriced for the state of the room.

I would have liked to stay longer as I love historical aspects of my surroundings. The fact that Artesia is proud of its oil and gas history is interesting. The tribute paid to the men and women who did this work is exemplary….. I was impressed with Artesia.

Pros: very friendly staff; good amenities for the price; breakfast ok; microwave in room plus fridge
Cons: smell of gasoline in room plus hotel on second night forced us to move to a different room in the middle of the night. Hotel is opposite a fuel refinery (see Google Maps).
Conclusion: I would not stay there again because of the fuel smell. Pity, because we liked all the rest about the hotel.

Artesia is a booming oil town.
Artesia is a booming oil town. Oil companies have taken the prices up to the extremes.
Hotels are overpriced.
Places to eat are extremely limited.
The only reason we go there is because we have family.
Otherwise, skip it.

It is an interesting town.
It is an interesting town. There are quite a few large sculptures that I would like to have been able to get a closer look at. There were interesting looking shops in the downtown area along hwy 82.

Small town with lots of support from the oil industry.
Small town with lots of support from the oil industry. Still some farming. Beautiful library, impressive sculptures representative of the area. Grew up there. Lots of change, surprising amount almost like it was when I was a kid.

Artesia is an oasis on the western edge of the great Permian...
Artesia is an oasis on the western edge of the great Permian/Delaware Basin oilfields. The Pecos isn't a large river, but it has carved a huge, wide valley in eastern New Mexico. East of the Pecos is an industrial landscape: pumpjacks, refineries, saltwater haul trucks and mechanical-looking gigantic buildings on the horizon. Regardless of one's opinion about energy sources, this swooshing, roaring fossil-fuel heartland is worth looking at. I came over on NM 529, which is getting a very smooth makeover.
West of the Pecos is Artesia. And to the west of Artesia is the southern Pecos Plains: no oil wells hardly at all, no trees, and a view of the high Sacramento Mountains ahead. In summertime, huge rainclouds tower up to the stratosphere over the New Mexico mountains. Driving up out of the hot, dry desert into the cool air and towering ponderosa forests is an experience your whole body will appreciate. No wonder New Mexico residents come out to dance in the rain, as they've done for thousands of years.*
Artesia is a good stop for the night before making that ascent.
*Lightning is a serious, deadly hazard in New Mexico. It can kill you--or worse. Don't stay outdoors when you hear thunder on the mountains, even under a clear sky. Read the National Weather Service guidelines for lightning, and observe how lightning slashes down in almost a straight line at high altitudes. Impressive, but don't get hit.
Fantastic tiny boutique motel in Artesia, NM. Well appointed spacious and incredibly comfortable. The adjacent restaurant is the best place to eat in town. Fabulous place. They do ask that you text in your way as they do not live on site and want to meet you at check in. Originally I thought that was a bit weird. In retrospect, it was a non issue and actually made check in super smooth. I give Adobe Rose my HIGHEST recommendation.
The location of the Hotel is out on the far west side of town, which is somewhat out of the way for most people traveling for work. Floors needed a good vacuuming, but working men make messes. Besides that, the property is in good shape, the room was nice, bed was extremely comfy, a/c was a little noisy but no worse than anything else most of us have dealt with.
The staff are what sets this hotel out from the others in the area. In every interaction here they went above and beyond.
The pool was out of action, but, for a change, there were actually people working on it, as opposed to other hotels that just put up a closed sign. We will be back.
I was there before this time. I loved that the pool was warm . This time the pool was having maintenance problems therefore we could not use it. The reason I booked this hotel was the pool. Was very disappointed. I was hoping for a discount on the price at least, but nothing.
There was nothing I didn't like. From bed comfort, cleanliness, customer care, cocktail lounge. breakfast with real plates, free water. 24-hour coffee bar. I will always stay here in my future visits. It's not like any other hotel I've stayed at in a very long time.
Adobe Rose was the perfect little place to stay in Artesia! Clean, cozy, and connected to the restaurant made it easy and fun to grab dinner and drinks right next door. Staff was excellent, can’t recommend this spot enough!
It was a great price compared to all the other places in Artesia. You get what you pay for but I was traveling alone and so it was certainly good enough for me.
The rooms are very clean and spacious. The breakfast was incredible, definitely better than most hotels. The WIFI speed was better than most hotels as well.
