Williamson is the county seat of Mingo Country.

Williamson is the county seat of Mingo Country. I realize a lot of it was destroyed during a flood in 1977. Since then, flood walls have contained the Tug River and protected what is left of the town. Parts remain depressed without improvement. It has great history from its founding to the coal industry to the Hatfield/McCoy era. It has great possibilities for adventure travel, hiking, wildlife and botanical tours in the mountains surrounding it. The Trakers adventure is current in the town and is enjoyed by people nationwide. So much more could be done, and I am at a loss, in my humble opinion, why so many opportunities have not been explored and funded through private investment. The road leading to Williamson is a four lane interstate highway. Why hasn't more been developed since the entire county is stunningly beautiful.

You can walk everywhere in downtown area.

You can walk everywhere in downtown area. We walked to restaurants and a nice gift shop. Ate at a sports bar/restaurant for dinner two nights and food was great. Had lunch in a cafe like restaurant - hubby had the special of chicken and waffles i had the fried bologna sandwich.
