We stayed in Brentwood because we were attending a party, and visiting with friends. Brentwood has a quaint downtown, but is bordered by towns that are known for crappy, dangerous activites, and there is spillover. When driving, expect jerky attitudes among speeders, noisy street cars, etc etc (I grew up in a big city, so I'm not some naive person)...there is a lot of agriculture in the area, many fruit and vegetable stands, and self-pick fruit orchards, so that would be fun for kids...it tends to be pretty hot in summer (106 when we visited), so be prepared

The area was not really relevant, because I was there for my sister's funeral, not to sight-see. I expected to have at least safe accommodations though, especially since I had made a careful point of requesting handicapped accommodations and having verification sent through to me before ever leaving my home in Selah, Washington.
