Not much in Occidental. Very limited options. Nature walk at Old Growth Redwoods was beautiful but very short (15 - 20 mins.) Very small town and for a Saturday afternoon/evening - the City was asleep!

Quaint little town.
Quaint little town. Rider, the clerk at the motel gave us some suggestions for restaurants nearby. Everything was within walking distance. Several stores, wine tasting, and restaurants all had very friendly staff.

Love Occidental!
Love Occidental! It's a small but fun little gem with great foods and a few fun shops. What I really love is that you're in the forest but also just a few miles outside of many cities and attractions. In the general area, there are lots of beaches nearby, tons of great food, interesting shops/stores, rivers, hiking, canopy tours, beautiful scenery. It's also surrounded by several small towns that each offers something interesting: cheese tasting, local arts, seafood, wineries, kite shops, antiques, and more. It is one of our go to places when we just want to get away for a couple of days.

You basically have two choices if you want to stay in the small town of Occidental. The Lodge is the more modest and less expensive. The Inn is fancier, offers meals and is more of a boutique hotel. Both are walkable to everything in town, which is about a 3-block main drag. Gorgeous forests surround the main street and there's an easy hike just on the edge of town.

Occidental is a cute little town.
Occidental is a cute little town. There are some nice shops to browse and a few restaurants. None of the restaurants were open after 8 p.m., so get food early! Or plan to drive into Sebastapol. It was a great location close to beaches and other little towns.

The price was reasonable.
The price was reasonable. It was much farther drive from Bodega Bay than I expected. The drive through the surrounding redwoods of the town was wonderful. If I had wanted a little forest retreat, spending more time in town would have been nice. I would have walked, shopped, ate and slept within 3/4 of a mile. I brought my own food. therefore had no need to go to eat out.
