AMAZING QUILT MUSEUM and WONDERFUL QUILT SHOP on the same block! Covered bridge @ city park with hiking trail was a lovely unexpected bonus. This is the place to stay and enjoy overnight if heading west to Lincoln,NE for International Quilt Museum !

Our visit to Winterset was great.

Our visit to Winterset was great. We were traveling from Minnesota to our home in Oklahoma, and decided to stay in Winterset to tour the covered bridges. Because we were traveling, we were not able to visit all the bridges or the John Wayne Birthplace and Museum. The bridges we were able to see, did not disappoint. We were impressed with the city park and the appearance of the town. Everything was so well maintained. We could tell the residents take pride in their community. We plan to go back when we have more time.

The covered bridges, obviously, are the chief attraction of Winterset. They're all fairly close to this motel, i.e., within a 10-minute drive. Clark Tower in the city or county park in Winterset is also worth seeing. It's a mile in from the entrance. You can drive there or hike. We hiked and had no difficulty doing so, but be prepared to go up and down some hills. We also walked around the courthouse square downtown. There's a small donut shop at the northeast corner, next to the Iowa Theater (I don't remember its name). Everything is hand-made on-site, fresh, tasty, and VERY inexpensive.

Winterset was a quaint little town with lots of history. Between the John Wayne museum and the historic covered bridges, there was plenty to do and see. Will definitely come back. Also, the rural surrounding areas were a gold mine for photo enthusiasts . It was a beautiful area to visit.

Town center was pleasant and walkable.

Town center was pleasant and walkable. We were over night guests & thought about the John Wayne museum but decided not to spend the $15/ person to go. Since we were en route to family activity further away, this was a pleasant overnight stop for us.

The John Wayne Museum exceeded our expectations.

The John Wayne Museum exceeded our expectations. The restaurants were good. We attended mass at the Catholic Church and very much enjoyed the service. The bridges were a little disappointing, as none of them seem to be used anymore.
