Doris is a small town with some killer Mexican food. It boosts the second biggest flag in the US. There is a new drive through coffee shop there, also. A pretext place to stay if you are coming up to go birding in the wildlife refuges.

I come here because I own property in the area, and there is good bird watching around town in the winter, with bald eagles on power poles alongside the road. The National Grasslands is down the road, with an observation shed for bird watchers. But it's a big field of scrub, not anything exciting if you are not looking for birds. There isn't really much else to do here if you're not here to work or visit someone in the area. If you're looking for a pretty place to vacation, I recommend the Lake of the Woods Resort, which is lovely and perhaps an hour away. There is a Dollar General, a grocery, a liquor store, for anything else you're going to Klamath Falls, which is a half hour to 45 minute drive. Freight trains come through a few times at night and blow their horns, but it didn't bother me.

Dorris is a small town with two Mexican restaurants, a supermarket, a liquor store, a Dollar General, and one motel. It's the only town with full services for 30 miles in each direction. If you want more, Klamath Falls is half an hour away and has a Walmart and all sorts of stores and services. Various shops have come and gone, or if they still exist have odd hours, so you might see someplace interesting to find that it's closed. The main railroad track for the area runs through town, and you'll hear the horn from the motel, but not too loud. Birders and those driving the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway will find this a convenient stop. I've seen bald eagles outside of town in the winter. Birders can look up the resources for Macdoel and Butte Valley. For emergencies: There is a fire department and a local ambulance corps in Dorris with a few trained EMTs. Hospitals in Klamath Falls and Yreka are both at least a half-hour drive away.

    Very reasonably priced.

Very reasonably priced. Frig worked, microwave worked, shower water nice and hot, room was clean. tv worked, bed comfortable. Heat worked which was important because it was 20 degrees outside. Security cameras outside, seemed reasonably safe, and well lit. Not a bad place to stay if you are visiting tulelake wildlife preserve to see the eagles. Very cool close up views of eagles there.
