We went to Gloucester to go to an exhibit at the Cape Anne Museum. The only problem with Gloucester in general is that all parking is metered and limited to 2 hours within any given zone. This means it is impossible to really enjoy the downtown. We had wanted to go to the museum and then wander around the town and shops. Two hours is not enough time for that. And we were in the off season when, at least, you could find parking. It must be awful in the summer. Too bad.

Gloucester is located in one of the most historic and picturesque areas north of Boston. Rockport and the Cape Ann area are just a few easy miles from Gloucester.
I highly recommend a 2-3 night stay in Gloucester.

Never found downtown Gloucester but did eat at some fabulous places in the town and stopped in cute nearby Rockport. Lots of beautiful and clean beaches to choose from. Better than Cape Cod! We ate at a little diner down the road and at the fantastic Seaport Grill. Worth every penny. Just order less than you want. Portions are gigantic.

Gloucester is a quaint little beautiful town.
Gloucester is a quaint little beautiful town. However, everything closes very early with short hours of operation. Be prepared to eat early or may not find places open. Bookings for tours were sold out for the only day we were available. Will book ahead next time.
Beautiful property in a perfect location. We were able to park the car for free, and then walk to the train station and all around Gloucester. The hosts are wonderful- friendly, thoughtful, and responsive without being overbearing. Very comfortable accommodations and breakfast items, snacks, water, coffee, and tea available all hours. Cannot thank Susan enough for the dinner recommendations as well! Will definitely return if we are in the area!
Lovely to stay in a property with so much history, and perfect location for my purposes which were sightseeing, culture and nature. Walking distance from downtown Gloucester and all its amenities and parking right at the back. Host was very helpful and knowledgeable with lots of interesting anecdotes. Room was spotless, very comfortable. Added bonus was an adorable dog called Skipper!
Wonderful property. Attention to every detail both in how well the apartment was fitted out—the most comprehensive array of kitchen appliances and tools—and to the aesthetics of the wall hangings, furnishings, etc. A great place to come back to and just relax after a busy day in Gloucester and Salem. Host was very responsive.
The views are wonderful and the property is located close to beach and downtown Gloucester. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were quiet, we didn’t hear anything! We had a small patio outside the room, which was the perfect spot to relax. Definitely recommend and hope to return here soon.
The rooms were newly renovated with tile floors, new paint and new bed furnishings. This was a surprise because booking.com still shows carpeted outdated rooms. The room was HUGE....MASSIVE, with ~20ft cathedral ceilings! Beds were comfy. The hotel had a great pool area and large yard to enjoy.
Our room was cozy and comfortable and very clean. Staff was very helpful - when we needed to book another room last minute for our son, they made it happen with no problems. For that I am very grateful! I will definitely come here again if I get back to Gloucester! Thank you!
Room was newly renovated and very clean and comfortable. Owner was very helpful at checkin with advice. Location was perfect. 5 min drive from the Gloucester promenade and 5 min from Rockport's downtown area. Would definitely stay here again. highly recommended!
Had a great stay in Gloucester at John's Inn.
Everything was well taken care of. Friendly hosts happy to help and talk about the area. Wonderful experience staying in a historic New England house right on the harbor.
Love the location. The hotel was right in the middle of all my outings, that was excellent. My longest destination was 12 mins. The young lady at the front desk was super friendly and outgoing, a beautiful soul!
The beach was unbelievably beautiful, the hotel was so close to anything we needed, meals, groceries etc. ; and the staff were incredibly kind and knowledgable. And Bert the parrot was a gem!
Just everything. The hotel is absolutely excellent, so is everyone of the management and staff. Exceptional maintenance and cleaness. The location and view are both unique.
the nicest people. understood hospitality and represented the hotel with that approach. everyone super nice, the views in rooms are great. i want to go back in summer
