Property Description

Jesmond Dene House is a small 4 AA red star privately-owned boutique-style hotel with 40 bedrooms that sits nestled within the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene. A country hotel setting yet only minutes from the suburb of Jesmond or bustle of Newcastle city centre and the quayside. The original house was Georgian designed for a local doctor in 1822 by John Dobson who was responsible for many of Newcastle handsome streets. It was then developed in the late 19th century for Sir Andrew Noble business partner to Lord Armstrong the great Victorian inventor and engineer. The Grade II-Listed Arts and Crafts mansion was extended and enhanced until it was bought by Newcastle City Council in 1933. For the next 65 years it had various uses including being used as a college Civil Defence establishment seminary and as a residential school. The building was in a very bad derelict state when it was bought restored and then opened as a hotel in 2005. In addition to the bedrooms there is a 3 AA Rosette restaurant offering a selection of daily menu options ranging from breakfast and afternoon tea to A la carte dinner or Sunday lunch. Functions weddings and business events can also be accommodated in a choice of four private rooms including the Great Hall a spectacular double-height room catering for up to 100 guests and with oak and silk wall panelling Gothic windows carved inglenook fireplace and minstrels gallery. The aim of the hotel since opening is to provide the highest levels of service hospitality and food for both business and leisure guests using local produce and suppliers where possible.
