"Hotel is lovely, Shula's was abysmal!"
Overall Score4.0/ 5
We had dinner in Shula's on Wednesday night. Seven of us for the patio. Paul was our server. He was very kind but very warm. Sweat was running in rivulets down his face. Totally not his fault, but why is he dressed in a long sleeve black shirt? That will seem more like torture in a few months if he sweats like that in May. Give your servers a break. Food was fair to poor. All of the seafood was over cooked, French fries were soggy, mushrooms had an odd spice that made them all but inedible. The salad was so overdressed, the predominant flavor was balsamic vinegar; who knew what was under it exactly. And the portions were huge on the sides. We asked Paul if they were shareable and he told us they weren't big enough. Padding his tip, perhaps? There was so much food left since we all purchased sides that it was a sin. On to the service. This is where the abysmal comes in. Paul greeted us fairly quickly and it went steadily downhill from there. 10 minutes to get water and bread because the bread was baking. (Best part of the meal, btw.). Was the water baking, too? It was hot out there for us as well. Cocktails took another 10 min or so. We finally ordered and waited more than 30 min for the food. The restaurant was not busy! The best part was waiting for the checks. To his credit they were separate. More than an hour to get them and they were not correct and have not been fixed to this day. We had some difficulties in getting our bags earlier in the afternoon, having to wait more than two hours for my luggage to be delivered, and the bellman gave me a voucher for two "free" breakfasts. We ate in Shula's. We both had to pay close to $17 because the voucher didn't cover the meal. Food was good, service once again terrible. We were served and then ignored. We were on the patio again. Is this the reason? We ate off property Thursday night and enjoyed a lovely, delicious, timely meal, wishing we had been there the night before as well. Thank you for listening.
