Set in its own extensive gardens, the Farthings enjoys an enviable reputation for the warm hospitality and opulent comfort it provides for it's guestsThe Hotel provides a home-from-home, a tranquil place to relax and unwind. We have a comfortable lounge with crackling log fires in winter, a well stocked bar and three elegant dining rooms. The Farthings offers eleven individually designed and spacious, en-suite Guest-bedrooms and Master-bedrooms. We also welcome well behaved dogs. The Farthings comprises beautiful grounds & gardens sporting orchards, roses and our own poultry for your breakfast eggs. We have beautiful spacious rooms to satisfy your need for peace and relaxation. Our restaurant is award winning and serves food from our gardens, local produce from neighbours, and the farmers near-by. The Farthings is privileged that guests who have been returning to visit us year after year, still hold the hotel with high esteem and we have the pleasure of welcoming them back. We are very lucky to have retained a small team of enthusiastic and caring local staff, and between us we aim to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. John, the Team and Sasha & Aonghas (the dogs), hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to the Farthings soon.Welcome to our Restaurant We have extensive orchards producing figs, apples, cherries, medlars, grapes, quinces, pears, cobnuts, sweet chestnuts, walnuts, mulberries, raspberries, rhubarb, apricot and plums and of course, our herb beds. Our surplus fruits go into jam and Ice cream production, also jus, gravies and Coulis. For that extra “je ne sais quoi”We rear our own pigs and we are enjoying sausages from the shoulder meat, bacon and delightfully lean pork joints. In particular, we are very proud of the wet and dry curing of our pork which makes the tastiest of traditional ham and Prosciutto.This year, we are rearing a flock of free-range Norfolk Bronze turkeys & have established a breeding flock of guinea fowl which will (eventually) feature year round on our menu.Over the summer months, our Greenhouse supplied the kitchen with terrific quantities of really delicious green peppers, chillies, salad leaf, tomatoes and beans. We have recently planted a range of autumn & winter seeds and we are now growing our own mushrooms year round.Our home cured Gravadlax is excellent. We home smoke on a traditional wood fire our own salmon, chicken, Duck and Pork to add a further dimension of flavour.Our local family butcher carefully matures, cuts and delivers the very finest of produce from local farms, some just a mile from Farthings. Our fishmonger is based at West-Bay Bridport. Just 20-minutes away where they land and deliver fresh fish daily, the very finest of produce our seas have to offer. Our scallops are from Lyme Bay and mussels from the River Fowey in Cornwall.Each dish that we produce for you is carefully & individually prepared to order, so please do allow a little time for this to take place.Our philosophy is to use the very finest of fresh, local and seasonal produce, simply cooked and elegantly presented. Hotel Accommodation The Hotel has 11 en-suite Guest-rooms and Master-bedrooms; all decorated individually, to the highest standard and each with free-view flat screen television, radio/alarm, direct dial telephone and some of which have Wi-Fi (please be sure to let us know when booking if you require Wi-Fi). Each room overlooks the gardens and features great beds, fluffy feather duvets, the best pillows and fine linen, gleaming bathrooms with bath or bath & shower (except for Cedar which has walk in shower only), antique furniture, pictures and porcelain. All rooms have complimentary tea, coffee, mineral water and biscuitsOak, Fern, Willow, Beech & Cedar are all Guest-rooms. The Master Bedrooms are Sandalwood with it's timbered ceiling; Bay with beautiful views of the front walled garden; Rowan is a very spacious 2nd floor room with lovely views of the rear gardens; Garden with it's magnificent deep window sills and lovely views of the frontage of the walled garden; Magnolia is a ground floor room with it's own access to the front garden; Walnut is in the rear gardens looking out over the paddock. Maple Cottage is a new addition and can offer accommodation according to your needs and purpose. It's a 1 bedroomed cottage with en-suite, kitchen, spacious lounge and sun catching conservatory with direct access to the rear gard
