ACTIVITIES ON THE ISLAND
Diving and Snorkeling are the wonderful experience in and around the turquoise water of Koh Chang which features another 52 islands in this National Marine Park. Dive sites include wreck, coral reefs, rock out crops and drop-offs.
Experts say that visibility can up to and beyond 65 meter on the perfect calm day. Most sites are normally accessed by dive boat leaving from all the major beach areas as well as from the best dive ho-off point of Bang Bao. Time to the sites vary from a few minutes, but normally allow for 60 -90 minutes of relaxed boating to get there. The best diving season is between November – April. The sites are on the west and southern tip of the island, between Koh Chang and Koh Kood.
ELEPHANT TREKKING
One great pastime to be enjoyed on Koh Chang is trekking. There are several elephant trekking operators on Koh Chang.
The Chang Chutiman Tour near Klong Prao Beach operates 1 hour treks and 2 hours trek that take you into the tropical rain forest and the secluded Wang Num Kiew Waterfall. There you can relax, picnic, swim in the pond and enjoy the environment. On your return route, the mahout may lead the elephants through a different path that exposes you to wild vegetation, giant trees and wildlife. Open daily from 8am -5pm.
The Klong Son Elephant Camp or Ban Kwan Chang, supported by the Asian Elephant Foundation, operates half-day tour from 8:30am to 11:30am which includes elephant bathing, feeding, performances, and a selection of 1 and a half hour trek into the forest. A shorter program at 1pm includes a 35 minute trek and 15 minute performance.
KAYAKING
For a relaxing trip along the coastlines, try paddling a canoe, which costs only100-150 Baht an hour or about 500 Baht a day. Canoes can be found along the beaches. For seriously Kayaking Lovers, a choice of Sea Kayaking will be great for your vacation.
